This weekend, millions of people around the world celebrated World Photo Day and the 177th anniversary of photography. The invention of the Daguerrotype, a photographic process developed by Joseph Nicephore Niece and Louis Daguerre in 1837 marks the origin of world photo day. On August 19th, 1839, the French Government bought the patent and released the new and practical process to the world, announcing the invention as a gift “Free to the World”. Photography has transformed from the stiff and eerie black and white images of the Victorian era into a beautiful and vibrant art-form. Fashion photography in particular has significantly progressed and captured the history of evolving trends and attitudes towards fashion. In honour of World Photo Day and to celebrate the freedom of expression through fashion, we have compiled a selection of our favourite and most iconic images.
