Chloé has announced the first edition of Chloé Arts, a new initiative aimed at championing the house’s legacy of female empowerment.

For the launch, the house is currently hosting the works of Danish artist Mie Olise Kjærgaard at its flagship store in Paris.

Discussing the new initiative, the house’s Creative Director, Chemena Kamali explained “Chloé is about intuition, freedom, and the celebration of women. Mie’s work speaks to all these elements. Her paintings portray women who make their own defined choices.”

Kjærgaard works in painting, occasionally sculptural objects and installation. Her large-scale paintings depict subjects of female liberation — women who confront traditions to ride a bike, or play tennis or music. Women who are adventurous, living their lives as subjects, experiencing life from the inside out, women seen through the female gaze.

Eight paintings, seven existing and one exclusively commissioned by Chloé, are on view at the Chloé Paris flagship store, a visual conversation coinciding with the first collection of Chemena Kamali for the house.

Discussing her work, and her partnership with Chloé, Kjærgaard said: “The women in my work have stopped worrying about people’s expectations and are deep into pursuing their own desires and interests. I am intrigued by the feeling of using one’s energy with freedom to some sort of max; like hitting a tennis ball satisfyingly perfectly. This freedom is a privilege, it’s a dream, and it matches well with Chloé’s spirit.”
