The premiere of La Traviata is this week. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, Creative Directors of the Maison Valentino, will create the costumes for Flora and for the Chorus, in collaboration with the Teatro dell’Opera costume workshop. Violetta’s costumes will be designed by Valentino and crafted in the Maison’s atelier. Valentino regards this special project as a dream come true, as he has always been fascinated by opera and its capacity of creating fantastic and modern worlds, through magnificent and timeless melodies.

Sofia Coppola, a prominent figure in the American film industry was chosen to join the production as the lyrical opera director because of her distinctive musical sensitivity present in her film “Marie Antoinette”. The scenes of this new Traviata also take inspiration from the film industry world, endorsed by British production designer Nathan Crowley, whose previous work includes “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight”, amongst many others.

The musical compositions will be entrusted to maestro Jader Bignamini, associate director of the Verdi Orchestra in Milan. Among the leading voices Francesca Dotto and Maria Grazia Schiavo, alternating in the role of Violetta, together with Antonio Poli and Arturo Chacón-Cruz, taking on the role of Alfredo.
