Actress Naomi Ackie and actor Daryl McCormack were tapped for the esteemed award, which was presented during an official dinner held at the Carlton Beach Club.

The winners: actress Naomi Ackie and actor Daryl McCormack

Created in 2001 by the co-president of Chopard, Caroline Scheufele, the Trophée Chopard honours each year two rising talents in the world of film acting.

Following on from the dinner, French singer and song-writer Juliette Armanet graced the audience with a performance, covering an interpretation of her famous soundtracks ‘Boum boum baby’, ‘L’amour en solitaire’, ‘A la folie’, ‘Le dernier jour du disco’ and ‘Qu’importe’.

Commenting on the Trophée Chopard, Caroline Scheufele said: “Chopard is a firm believer in perpetuating the artistic professions cultivated in our workshops as is evidenced by our focus on training. It was therefore only natural to extend our concern for transmission to our commitment to cinema. The Trophée Chopard enables us to draw attention to an actress and an actor who deserve to gain recognition in their field so as to launch their career. Laureates of this distinction have consistently confirmed the hopes placed in them.”

The Chopard-designed trophies

The trophy – a ribbon of silver film covered in gold – was designed by Caroline Scheufele herself. Like the Palme d’Or and all the trophies awarded at the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival, it is made by Chopard’s jewellery artisans in its workshops.
