Expo 2020 Dubai: A Recap of Highlights

As Expo 2020 Dubai draws to an end it has truly been an incredible success. The event has attracted millions of visitors from around the world, including pollical leaders, heads of state, royal family members, global celebrities and so much more. It has set a new bar for Expos to come but has also highlighted future steps that can be taken to improve our planet and the way we live both in the UAE and further afield. As Expo 2020 prepares to transform into District 2020 later this month, we look back at some of the highlights so far.

 

Infinite Nights

 

 

The Infinite Nights series of concerts has been one of the musical highlights of the event. Alicia Keys was the first global artist to perform at Al Wasl Plaza last year. The 15-time Grammy Award- revealed her new album “Keys” for the first time at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Nancy Ajram was another star who took to the Infinite Nights stage in November with an impressive performance.

And who could forget the incredible performance from Chris Martin and his band Coldplay as they played to a packed crowd this February? The appearance of the British brand raised the roof at Al Wasl Plaza as they performed with fireworks and an impressive sustainable light show.

 

 

UAE National Day Ceremony at Al Wasl

The UAE Celebrated its 50th National Day on December 2nd 2021 with an impressive array of activities. His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence Commissioner General of Expo 2020 Dubai spoke to crows at Al Wasl Plaza and an impressive firework display ensured the evening went off with a bang!

 

 

His Royal Highness Prince William Duke of Cambridge and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai during the United Kingdom National Day

 

His Royal Highness Prince William, Duke of Cambridge paid a visit to Expo 2020 this February to mark the United Kingdom’s National Day. During his visit, the Duke met with His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai and also spoke of the importance of sustainability and protecting our planet for generations to come.

 

Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal international and Manchester United forward footballer at Al Wasl

 

Global superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal and Manchester United footballer appeared in front of a thousands-strong crown at the Al Wasl Plaza earlier this year. The star who boasts over 400 million followers on Instagram spoke of the importance of the event and how he see Dubai as a second home.

 

Hazza Almansoori speaks during the ‘Ask An Astronaut’ Q&A as part of The People’s Mission

 

The UAE’s first astronaut to travel to space Hazza Almansoori spoke during the ‘Ask An Astronaut’ Q&A session as part of The People’s Mission: Citizens in Space Exploration. He reflected upon his journey into space and the opportunities he has had so far.

 

His Royal Highness Prince Albert of Monaco speaks during Monaco National Day Ceremony at Al Wasl Plaza

 

His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco visited Expo 2020 and hailed UAE and Monaco as hubs of “cosmopolitan exchanges”, during an interview for the principality’s National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai on Saturday, 13th November. He attended a range of cultural festivities across the Expo site to mark the day and met with HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

 

Usain Bolt Headlines Family Run at Expo 2020 Dubai

 

Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt took part in The Family Run at the Expo 2020 Dubai’s Sports, Fitness and Wellbeing Hub. The event was held to support Al Noor’s rehabilitation and training programs for students of determination.
