This is was a one-of-the-a-kind event, showing at American Stock Exchange with a complete retro-sleek modern décor set up. A-lists and clients came in for this from all around the world.

Some ensembles were accessories with fine silver chained bags, referencing the New Yorker’s shining and bold architecture. The house of BV is known for its quiet approach, but this time around were jewel-toned silk pyjama sets and onesies- so practical for all the jetsetters out there.

Menswear guru Raf Simons debuted his FW’18 collection in midtown Manhattan’s Sir Stage 37, to a room full of idle rich.
Titled “Youth in Motion,” the catwalk was the designer’s own vision of a Flemish inspired still life visual- a lavish display of fruits, wine bottles, pieces of bread and floral arrangements.
Inspired by the 1981 film “Christiane F.,” directed by Uli Edel- focused on the dangers of drug addiction. But of course, Simons in his very own way, he modernised the entire show with a techno playlist and colourful laser lights that gave a fresh vibe that he loves so much.
There were plenty of tailored oversized blazers paired with skinny trousers and accessories with latex gloves. Simons introduces new silhouettes, offering a boxy plaid coat topped with a bright yellow lining with a deconstructed turtleneck and satin cargo pants.
The colour palette used throughout was bright yet soft including- red, yellow, and orange and purple.
Subtle drug references were printed on scarves and knee pads, patches with letters LSD, XTC and GHB, or in a more obvious matter, as “Drugs” printed in block letters on a hoodie looking poncho.
In all this collection revealed Simon’s strong connection with Millennials and that he still can manage to inspire forthcoming generations and beyond.

Take us on the N de PP journey and how did it get here today?
N de PP connects the dots to spark the perfect impression. Each of our offerings is a dot that helps you leave a mark. And together all these dots bring distinct flavour to life. Launched in 2017, N de PP is a story of memories and moments. One dot is chocolate making excellence that dates back to 2000.
At N de PP we craft experiences through our second dot: Full event management, sales and marketing consultancy as well as personal and image branding services rooted in more than a decade of expertise.
Printing and creation are the third dot in N de PP’s unique world and are drawn on 40 years of know-how.
What makes N de PP’s offerings different than any other chocolate brand in the region?
N de PP captures the premium luxury of Belgium chocolate and deliciously merges it with handmade detail and elegant design. We artfully pair quality chocolate with souvenirs for all occasions to offer you personalized and customized gifts, corporate gifts, and the perfect additions to your special events such as weddings and conferences.
Explain N de PP’s process, from choosing the ingredients to the final packaging.
At N de PP we are dealing with experienced chefs who cater the perfect taste of chocolate for us, in addition myself and my team are in charge of choosing the flavours and the ingredients along with food tasting. As printing services we are leaders in creating the best packaging that would fit the theme that we are planning for. The chocolate are handmade wrapped and designed with passion and full commitment by talented experts. The marketing team is in charge of communicating our brand in all platforms, exhibitions and events.
What regions of the world do your cacao beans come from? And what flavor profiles are you looking into?
Belgium, Turkey and Spain chocolate factories are supplying our project, depends on the flavour and taste. It all defers from seasons, and the market needs and trends.
In your opinion, what are the key indicators of really good chocolate?
The key indicators are definitely the appearance, the texture and the flavour.
Good chocolate should melt in the mouth. The taste should remain for a while and not fade away after a certain time, and the chocolate should also be evenly coloured and has a silky and not sticky touch.
What’s your take on the chocolate industry in Lebanon?
The Lebanese market is a highly saturated. The success of the chocolate industry is linked to its capacity to adapt to what the customer wants and serve one’s specific needs. In Lebanon, you don’t find a shop that serves a limited number of flavours; you can see the huge variety of flavorus and chocolate designs, along with the affordable prices and good quality.
What makes this a dream job for you?
I always wanted to have my own company and open a family business with the support of my husband who is well experienced in this domain, and I wanted to do something I am so passionate about. I always fancied being a real life Charlie in a chocolate factory.
In your opinion, does preference in chocolate flavours vary by region?
Chocolate is the universal language of caring and happiness. It cannot vary by region. Who doesn’t like chocolate? In addition, you can always link chocolate to a wedding, the birth of a new born, a certain anniversary, sitting with a friend… It is always there anytime and everywhere.
Be honest: who makes the best chocolate in the world?
In my opinion, Belgium makes the best chocolate in the world. The country redefined the word “Chocolate” and gave it a new meaning.
What does the year 2018 hold for N de PP?
In 2018, we are planning to reach more customers and to serve them with the premium luxury of Belgium chocolate along with all the services we can provide. We want to properly introduce N de PP to the Lebanese market. In addition, we are planning to extend our full event consultancy services to help the consumer enjoy a memorable life time experience in all occasions. Not so long ago, we launched our social media pages on Instagram and Facebook, are willing to reach as many people as we can, and launch new campaigns on all platforms. In the near future, the plan is to partner with hotels, event companies, shopping malls, and big holding groups to supply their needs.

To celebrate the art of craftsmanship, L’atelier Nawbar is an artistic world that showcasing a holistic collaboration between the designer, artisan, retailer and consumer.
Created and designed by today’s fourth generation jewellers Dima and Tania Nawbar- the creative minds behind this fulfilling experience. A&E chats with the Nawbar sisters, as they fill us in on their deep appreciation of traditional hand-craftsmanship, the long-life lessons they received from their family’s jewellery heritage and how they sustain high-quality in a demanding world.
Tell us about your journey into the jewellery industry and a little bit more about your early days as jewellery designers?
Our father asked us to join, and we agreed but in our terms. We wanted to expose the workshop and have all our clients use it as we did as children to remodel, repair and tailor-made pieces. It still early days as we have been proper jewelers for the past six years and compared to my father 40 years’ experience we feel like we still have so much to give.
Did you always know that you would be taking the reins in your family business?
It was written in the stars and inevitable.
What is the most valuable lesson you have learned from you family’s jewellery heritage?
Honestly in design and quality we treat our colleagues and clients as family. We believe in long-term relationships.
What is your typical design process? What does L’atelier Nawbar offer that other brands in the region don’t?
We don’t like to be compared because we are always pushing our own boundaries and comparing our evolution to collections before. We get our inspirations from our own personal lives.
What are your personal favourite stones?
Our favorite stones are opals and emerald.
How important is it to maintain “slow fashion,” high-quality practices in an industry that is always demanding more?
We don’t believe in slow fashion we are always up-to-date, we make sure to pick up on trends before time and have ample time to develop these designs. They are true to the time you buy them but they are always having a timeless element.
What is your take on the world of independent fine jewellers in the Middle East? There are some talented designers but there are some who are influenced by the west and therefore there are a lot of copies of the big brands.
To what extent do you feel jewellery empowers the women of today?
We feel that jewelry design empowers today’s woman no longer how many karats she has on her finger.
It is clear that the brand is designing for a range of ages. Can you share with us who are you planning to appeal to?
We design for a type of woman not an age group. Our woman is avant-garde with personal style who is not scared to experiment a set trends. This lady comes in all ages.
Tell us a little bit about your latest collection. Do you have a favourite piece?
Our latest collection is the Bondstreet Collection, a collection that very close to the heart. As it is a revamp of an eighties collection that was designed and produced by Nawbar London located in 102 new bondstreet (our father previous shop). Our favorite piece is the cuff earrings multi use and add color to any outfit.
In your opinion, what are three must-have items that every woman should own?
Name a role model you would want to wear your designs.
Rihanna, Katy Perry and Beyoncé; or anyone with a specific personal style.
Do you have any advice for those hoping to break into the industry?
Stays true to your personal style even if you are told otherwise, don’t try to modify thinking it’s too much or too little if you love it someone else will.
What is next for L’atelier Nawbar? Are you working on any special new designs or projects at the moment?
We are fashionable and trendy fine jewelry so new a collection 2 or 3 times a year is mandatory for our concept.

Dreamiest Dresses From Paris Haute Couture SS18
A man with many talents, driven by ambition, fueled by his father’s priceless lessons and advice in both the business and the personal world; meet Izzat Traboulsi, founder of T2 Trading, and operating all Hugo Boss stores in the MENA region. Being one of the youngest men sitting in international board meetings has surely allowed Mr. Traboulsi to prove himself in the world of retail, and his success story shows that talent and hard work indeed pay off. A&E sat with the entrepreneur who shared his experience, his vision and insights for 2018.
What was your background before joining the Fashion Trading Company? And what led you take part of the fashion industry?
I graduated with a degree in computer science which puts me in a completely different background. My father’s company was the agent of Hugo Boss in Lebanon. He started outside the fashion world as well since he was a banker, but then his love for fashion pushed him to get into the field. So I guess you could say my background is part of my DNA since I most definitely inherited my interest in fashion from my father! My first summer job was with my father’s company, and I only kept moving upwards from there until I became Managing Director of Hugo Boss in the MENA region at the age of 27. Being the youngest member in an international board of directors definitely pushed me to prove myself and got me to be who I am today.
What’s your take on the fashion/retail scene in Lebanon?
To be honest, I am disappointed in the fashion scene in Lebanon. Globally, we are not as fashionable as the international world. Of course, there are some very good stores, but as a scene, it is not that interesting. This is why I am planning on a new contemporary concept store through which I want to cater for a fashion market that is outside of the majority of the Lebanese fashion scope. This contemporary district will include out-of-the-box ideas for stores, gym, even hairdressers. ANOTHER –the name of the project- will launch in February 2018 in the 04 land in Naqqache.
When it comes to opening a franchise of an international brand like Hugo Boss, what are the key factors you always keep in mind?
Hugo Boss’ franchise has been my “baby” and I’ve worked on letting it successfully grow for years. I always want to make sure that my outcome is as good as the international one; otherwise, people will go to the other franchises. As a franchise, you should always keep in mind that the clients have to be 100% satisfied with your offering; the experience of buying Hugo Boss has to be the exact same as if they are buying it in Europe or in New York; from the service, to the sales, to the after service. This is how they won’t feel the need of buying the products from outside of Lebanon.
How would you assess the importance of local brands versus international ones, especially in Lebanon?
We have amazing local brands in Lebanon; Elie Saab, Zouheir Mrad, the list is long. But they are all haute couture designers; Lebanese are known to be very meticulous in one-on-one client relationships and that’s what makes the haute couture market so successful. We don’t have a star designer in the ready-to-wear. I believe young Lebanese designers are very talented, and probably need to start in Europe in order to become stars in the ready-to-wear as the market there is huge.
What’s your strategy plan for Hugo Boss for the coming 2018?
We are currently the second best franchise in the region after Dubai, so our strategies so far are working. We want the best for our consumers. So for 2018, we want to enhance what you cannot see; develop artificial intelligence and software that will help with transactions, stocks and understanding clients even more. Our loyal clients deserve advantage and priority; and that is what we are going to give them.
Define Luxury.
Luxury is comparable to savoir-vivre. In my opinion, you have to appreciate luxury to create luxury. It’s a personal approach and relationship between the item and its owner. And as my father always says, buy luxury for you, not to show it off.
What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you starting handling Hugo Boss?
I think the greatest lesson and advice was from my dad: always be respectful, honest and straightforward, in both your business and personal life.
What are three essential pieces every man must own?
A nice pair of shoes, a nice boxy-fit top from a contemporary designer, and slim tailored pants shortened at the ankle.
What has been your career highlight?
Actually my biggest career highlight comes from my life’s regret. I was accepted at Columbia University and I rejected it because my father asked me to, in order to keep running the company. It was a big regret for me, but it made me push my limits even more with Hugo Boss. This led me to move from wholesale to retail, and become the founder of my own retail company with the Hugo Boss franchise, which is my career’s highlight!
What’s your advice on picking the perfect suit? How many suits do you have hanging in your own wardrobe?
The perfect fit is the most important thing! As for me, I have a lot of suits, probably 50! I actually have more shoes than suits. But when it comes to numbers, I am currently cutting down towards better quality.
Your life motto…
I don’t think I have one motto. Life is about so much more since we look at it from different perspectives. I think my motto(s) are to look at life in different dimensions, to be honest and straightforward, and to give back to life and be grateful!

SMAC is a fun democratic design brand by Sandra Macaron. It offers a variety of home decor accessories made of glossy acrylic, to fit any ambiance. Colourful, fresh, bold, dynamic, and rich is how one would define SMAC’s of-a-kind designs. Each collection comes with an inspirational story behind it, to trigger our senses and feelings.
The Lebanese-born designer approach may seem modern, but Macaron never has forgotten the past. The home-ware product designer is famous for displaying traditional oriental patterns mixed with contemporary materials. Here, the designer highlights on her favourite projects, the journey that led here today and what the year has in store for her eponymous brand.
Take us on the journey that led to what is known today as SMAC.
It was a simple table that set me on this path!
While working on the interior design of an apartment, I designed a set of tables for that particular client that attracted a lot of his visitors. I started receiving calls about making more, and as the orders increased, the collection started growing from furniture, lighting fixtures to home accessories. So the process came naturally, it’s a business that ended up choosing me!
What are your biggest influences?
I have always been fascinated by personal stories and old anecdotes; my Mother and Father’s crazy eloping wedding, my Armenian grandparent’s deportation journey.
You will notice this influence in our products such as the ‘Remene’ collection featuring geometric representations of pomegranates, symbolizing fertility and abundance in the Armenian culture. The ‘Blatt’ or ‘Terrazzo’ collection, inspired by the old cement tiles, reminding the floors of old traditional Lebanese houses back in Beirut’s golden ages.
Tell us more about the production process at SMAC; what are the materials used and where do you produce?
Developing a product is like planting. Sometimes you wait years for a flower to grow and other times it just blooms immediately. At SMAC we mostly use Plexi-glass and all our products are hand-made in Lebanon.
What triggered you into being a designer?
I guess my curious and experimental nature as a kid drove me to being a designer. I have always sought change, from do-it-yourself crafts, painting my room walls, changing the display of my furniture, all that leading me to the design world and to driving my mother mad.
Name your favorite Middle Eastern designer you dream of collaborating with one day.
I would pick the Iranian designer, India Mahdavi.
What attracts you the most about patterns?
I am mostly attracted to repetitive shapes that transform a hard material into an intricate and light form. For example the ‘Remene’ patterns transforming the plexi-glass look like fabric.
Define SMAC’s philosophy.
SMAC is a fun, colorful, splashy, bold, vibrant and democratic home accessories design brand based in Beirut. Behind every collection is a story to tell to convey a nostalgic sentiment. SMAC’s philosophy is to keep reviving old memories and to bring them to life through contemporary products.
Name some of your favorite projects so far.
I have worked in many fields, from interiors, furniture, products to lighting design. My Coup de Coeur would be ‘DD’ the multipurpose sculpture I designed in homage to my Grand-Father. It can be placed in various positions, transforming it into a console or a bookshelf. This piece has a ripping sensation enhanced by the copper structure characterizing the roots, fighting to stay in place. Representations of those individuals were torn away from their own homes and families.
How does being settled in Beirut affect your work?
I love Beirut, an amazing city of contrasts that keeps inspiring me every day. Most of my collections are inspired by traditional architectural elements found in beautiful old Beirut’s dwellings. It’s a city that never stops surprising me!
What makes you stand out among other designers?
My recipe for standing out is a pinch of passion, a touch of belief, and a lot of hard work.
Do you have any rules?
Trust your instincts!
In your opinion, which will be the top trends in interior design in 2018?
I would say “Old is the new Black”. Everything from the past is coming back to life; from retro prints, to old fashioned furniture, to ancient materials…
What is next for Sandra Macaron?
Sandra is nowhere near finishing building her business; she has big plans for SMAC. It should grow in all aspects: a bigger design team, in-house production, multiple branches and an international franchise. I’m hoping to reach New York, Paris and Tokyo one day.

Bokja Design: A Story of Beautiful Contradictions
If you can’t get a little sunshine into the room, why not dress up in the colour instead? Sunshine yellow brought lots of joy all over runways too, from designers like Carolina Herrera to Oscar De La Renta; where they showed their appreciation for the optimistic popping hue for their SS18 collections.
Now, if a total yellow look is too much for you, go for a vibrant handbag instead, it will add a whole lot of cheer to your daily style. For a nonchalant approach, match your favourite denims with a yellow bright silky blouse and embroidered flat mules. And if you are more on the subtle side, yellow does not have to be bold at all times; opt for a sweet ruffled dress in feminine lemon, it will go very well with all skin tones.

For Armani Privé SS18 collection, Linda Cantello, International Make-up artist for Giorgio Aramani Beauty, interprets an ethereal beauty look for the airy and light collection.
Cantello says: “Inspiration from Mr. Armani was ‘Opal’. A cloudy sky, aurora borealis. Pastel shades mattified to make an indiscernible nuage of colors.”
Armani Privé Spring Summer 2018 was a pure reflection of the changing a nature of the white clouds, with intricate details recalling its airiness and light colours. Including technical fabrics and watercoloured art prints, the dreamlike elegant range was one of a kind.
For a glowing complexion result, Linda started off by massaging the skin with Armani Prima Glow-on Moisturising Balm, then applied the Power Fabric on the face, the lips and eyelids to ensure a natural skin tone. Then used the Lip Maestro in shade #506 as a blush that gave the models a gorgeously soothing subtle pink coloured cheeks.
As for the eyes, there were three shades of Eye Tint in #35 Jade Reflection, #32 Blue Reflection, #33 Rose Reflection. All blended together to create a light pastel wash of colour. Then highlighted the face with the Face Fabric in #0 Matte White, which was applied on the brow bone, t-zone, on top of lip and on chin.
To finish off the look, used the Eccentrico mascara in #1 Obsidian Black, with added lashes on the top and bottom. And for the lips, a litte dab of Lip Maestro #505 was used on the inside and on the center of the lip.
Finally, powder was brushed all over the face using the Luminous Silk Compact, for a refreshing matte finish.
