Fashion month is over which means it’s time to break down all the trends that will be huge next season.
The surprise hit was a humble pair of shorts, which is great news for us living in all-year-round sunshine. These are not beach shorts or denim, designers like Louis Vuitton and Off-White went for an elevated finish with luxe fabrics, tailored cuts and styled with statement jackets.
Many presented their take on soft pastel shades and transparency highlighting the infatuation with gentleness and new femininity. The ice cream hues had a grown up feel with a touch of innocence making them wearable across generations. Transparency was not too boudoir and carried a sense of mystery, although there were a few daring options for those who prefer to walk on the risqué side. And speaking of walking, we are sure the plastic Chanel boots will be selling out before you can say ‘wait list’.
A case of ‘less is more’ will not apply to a number of collections for SS18 with many having fun with embellishment, feathers, sequins, leather and studding. Jacquemus and Raf Simons at Calvin Klein both took fringing to a whole new level, while Maison Margiela and Saint Laurent added some feather work to coat collars, dresses and accessories.
Milan-based designers embraced the classic pencil skirt and gave it a modern day revival with extra embellishment and clash of textures. When styled with kitten-heels, it is bound to be one of the favourite go-to looks among the fashion editors.
