In a celebration of Eastern aesthetics, Les Benjamins has launched a capsule exclusively available in Dubai for Fall-Winter 2024.
Titled “Eastern Punk” the curated pieces from the collection are presented with an evocative campaign shot by renowned photographer Prod Antzoulis and styled by Between Us Boys Studio, capturing the intensity and vibrance of this special drop.
Guided by the vision of creative director Bünyamin Aydin, the FW24 collection reimagines Turkish punk by drawing on the roots of this rebellious spirit. Aydin, who honours the pioneering influence of Tünay Akdeniz—the driving force behind Turkey’s 1970s punk scene—sees the collection as both homage and evolution. “Once you reconnect with your roots and the origins of how music genres started in your hometown, only then can you continue building new movements,” he explains. With Eastern Punk, Aydin reintroduces Turkish cultural symbols through a modern, cross-cultural lens.
This season’s line-up includes boundary-pushing silhouettes, gender-fluid designs, and rich, daring colours. An audacious colour palette shifts from fiery pinks, yellows, and reds to deep purples, burgundies, and blacks, creating a striking contrast that embodies punk’s bold essence. Intricate Turkish patterns come alive in outerwear, with trompe l’oeil effects blurring the line between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary artistry. Distressed finishes, asymmetry, and layered textures offer a nod to punk’s raw edge, while reimagined pleated skirts—available in various lengths and fabrics—encourage individual expression beyond conventional gender boundaries.
The visual language of Eastern Punk is steeped in cultural fusion. Iconic punk elements like zippers, studs, and torn edges meet the timeless motifs of Turkish calligraphy, ancient carpet patterns, and Eastern symbolism. Elements like patchwork detailing, seen on drainpipe jeans and suiting, are combined with leather outfits punctuated by safety pins. These pieces evoke the subversive aesthetic of punk album covers, while also paying homage to the opulence and history of Turkish heritage.
This collection achieves a singular balance—each piece serves as a sartorial intersection of history and avant-garde innovation. “Our focus is on creating pieces that can be enjoyed by all genders, and there’s nothing more rewarding than to be able to share our rich underground music community with the world,” explains Lamia Al-Otaishan Aydin, Les Benjamins’ womenswear design director.
