This January the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s outdoor film screening series is set to return, with four new movies.

From the 11th of January until the 22nd of February the culture hub will showcase a different film each Saturday evening, including two which complement a current  Post-Impressionism exhibition at the museum, featuring work by the artist Vincent Van Gogh.

Scroll down to find out more about which films you can enjoy under the stars this month.

At Eternity’s Gate (2018) – 7 pm, 11th of January 2025

This film offers a mesmerising cinematic journey through Vincent Van Gogh’s tortured genius. Directed by Julian Schnabel and starring Willem Dafoe, the biopic is set in the sun-drenched fields of Arles and the shadowed corners of the artist’s psyche. The story follows Van Gogh’s relentless quest to capture the truth as he sees it. Battling societal rejection, mental fragility, and his own demons, Van Gogh finds solace in the natural world and his intimate connection to art.

Loving Vincent (2017) 7 pm, 25th of January 2025

The second Van Gogh movie to be showcased this January at the museum is the first-ever fully painted film. Set a year after the enigmatic death of the Dutch master, the story follows young Armand Roulin, a reluctant messenger tasked with delivering a letter from Van Gogh to his brother, Theo. As Armand delves deeper into the artist’s final days, his journey takes him across the iconic landscapes and vivid towns immortalised in Van Gogh’s art.

Frau im Mond (1929), 7.30pm, 8th of February 2025

Step into a visionary world where science and ambition collide in Fritz Lang’s Frau im Mond, the silent era’s dazzling take on space exploration. The film follows a diverse crew, brought together by dreams of fortune and discovery, as they embark on humanity’s first mission to the Moon. Leading the charge is the brilliant yet underappreciated scientist Professor Manfeldt, whose theories about lunar gold attract a mix of idealists, adventurers, and sinister opportunists.

The Adventures of Tintin (1991),  7pm, 22nd of February 2025

Join Tintin, the intrepid young reporter with an uncanny knack for sniffing out mysteries, as he embarks on an exhilarating adventure that spans continents. Alongside his faithful fox terrier, Snowy, and the gruff yet endearing Captain Haddock, Tintin finds himself swept into a web of intrigue involving a cryptic treasure map, ancient secrets, and dastardly villains lurking at every turn.
