This winter, the luxury luggage house RIMOWA has unveiled an extraordinary collaboration with celebrated British artist Ptolemy Mann, merging the realms of modern art and functional travel.
The launch introduces the limited-edition RIMOWA Essential Cabin Threshold cases, with each piece reflecting Mann’s mastery of colour and abstract expressionism.
The new addition to RIMOWA’s Essential range features two seasonal hues, Ginger and Nautical, inspired by the architectural charm of Copenhagen and the maritime spirit of Nordic traditions.
The centrepiece, however, is Mann’s exclusive ‘Threshold’ artwork, artfully translated onto the grooved polycarbonate shell of the Nautical suitcase. This meticulous design is limited to just 1,000 numbered pieces, underscoring its exclusivity.
Mann’s artistic journey, spanning over 25 years, has been characterised by her evocative use of colour and innovative techniques. Renowned for her large-scale, hand-dyed textile works, Mann’s creations resonate with chromatic minimalism and abstract expressionism. Her evolution from woven canvases to expansive ‘Thread Paintings’ is evident in this project, where the interplay of ink and brushstroke is seamlessly adapted to the polycarbonate medium.
The design of the RIMOWA Essential Cabin Threshold reflects Mann’s signature style, with intricate ink layering that mimics her textile artistry. The unprinted segments of the case allow the natural grooves of the polycarbonate to enhance the depth, creating a three-dimensional effect that captivates the eye.
Inside, the suitcase’s interior continues the theme, featuring a blue-tinted brushstroke design on the RIMOWA flex divider, symbolising Mann’s profound connection to colour and emotional resonance.
