Dubai Watch Week 2017 Highlights

The third edition of Dubai Watch Week has seen the biggest gathering of watch brands and time enthusiasts.

 

The five-day event brought together experts in the horology industry such as Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet, Van Cleef & Arpels and Vacheron Constantin to exhibit their latest timepieces. It also saw watch connoisseur’s engage in debates and conversation among leaders in the industry on all topics from e-commerce to modern day marketing.

 

We have gathered some of our top highlights below.

 

Christie’s Opinion

Some visitors had their watch expertly appraised thanks to the collaboration with Christie’s, who also held an auction during the week.

 

 

And The Winners Are

Just a week after the 2017 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève awards, all of the 15 winners could be admired in curated space made to look like a forest in the night, specifically created for Dubai. Our top pick? The Chopard Lotus Blanc watch that won the Jewellery Watch prize.

Attendees to the the Horology Forum saw over 30 international speakers covering topics such as Smart Watches, Digital Curators and What Makes the Value of a Watch. They had a chance to ask questions and interact with thinkers of the industry on an open level that is rarely seen elsewhere. Names included Laurence Nicolas, President of Dior Timepieces, and Kurt Klaus, owner of Bovet Pascal.

 

 

Masters At Work

For the first time, Dubai Watch Week, Master Classes have been extended to include métiers d’art, whereas previously they focused on mechanisms. This included prominent names like engraver Tiago Aires Sergio from Bovet and Fabrizio Buonamassa who is the designer at Bulgari.

Limited Edition Pieces To Know
IWC Schaffhausen has launched an exclusive Portugieser Tourbillon Hand-Wound watch for collectors in the Middle East. Featuring a deep green dial and limited to just 25 examples. Longines celebrates its 185th anniversary this year and as a tribute to customers in the Middle East, they have created 185 unique pieces. Based on a Heritage honey-coloured model re-edition of a timepiece from 1918, this watch displays Arabic numerals such as those used in the Middle East.

 

Audemars Piguet also chose Dubai to unveil the newest addition to their portfolio, the Millenary Frosted Gold watch with an artistic dial.
