Swiss luxury watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen revisits the iconic design of the 1980s and presents the 2017 Da Vinci collection, once again with its classic round case. The Da Vinci Automatic 36 and the Da Vinci Automatic Moon Phase 36 are tailored to women, while the Da Vinci Automatic is a unisex model. Two Da Vinci timepieces feature newly developed IWC-manufactured calibres that innovatively combine and integrate complications.
Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen said: “With the new Da Vinci collection, IWC Schaffhausen has returned to the round case that was so successfully established by the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar in 1985. It means we are bidding farewell to the tonneau case and reaffirming our commitment to the classic proportions the brand stands for.
“With the Da Vinci Automatic 36 and the Da Vinci Automatic Moon Phase 36, we are also re-establishing an old tradition of creating selected models from the Da Vinci line specially for women and adding diamonds or fashionable straps and bracelets as features. I am particularly pleased about the launch of the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph and the Da Vinci Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph because they truly embody our manufacturing expertise,” he added.
DA VINCI AUTOMATIC
With its round case and distinctive horns, the Da Vinci Automatic draws directly on the iconic design of the 1980s Da Vinci models. Designed for both women and men, the elegant timepiece is available either with a slate-coloured dial and stainless-steel bracelet or with a silver-plated dial and black alligator leather strap.
DA VINCI AUTOMATIC 36
The Da Vinci Automatic 36 is one of two new models with which IWC Schaffhausen addresses an exclusively female target group this year. The three-hand timepiece is available in gold or stainless steel, with or without diamonds and with coloured alligator leather straps by Santoni.
DA VINCI AUTOMATIC MOON PHASE 36
With the Da Vinci Automatic Moon Phase 36, a ladies’ watch with a moon phase display is finally returning to the Da Vinci family. There is a choice of three models: one in red gold with a bronze- coloured alligator leather strap, one in a stainless-steel case with 54 diamonds on the bezel and a dark brown alligator leather strap, and one in stainless steel with a dark blue alligator leather strap, all with silver-plated dials.
DA VINCI CHRONOGRAPH EDITION “LAUREUS SPORT FOR GOOD FOUNDATION”
The Da Vinci Chronograph Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation” is one of the highlights of the current Da Vinci collection. Every year, IWC Schaffhausen presents a limited special edition, part of the proceeds from which is used to help disadvantaged children and young people. On the back of the watch is a drawing by a Chinese boy, with which he won the global children’s drawing competition.
DA VINCI PERPETUAL CALENDAR CHRONOGRAPH
The Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph is the brand’s first watch to combine the hour and minute counters with the moon phase in a single subdial. Achieving this called for a development of the IWC-manufactured 89630 calibre. A silver-plated or gold-plated disc depicts the full moon in all its glory. At the same time, the rounded, dark blue section of the disc – representing the earth’s shadow – rotates to show the waxing or waning moon. With white gold particles sprinkled across the dark blue background, the subdial has the appearance of a star-studded night sky.
DA VINCI TOURBILLON RÉTROGRADE CHRONOGRAPH
The name of the Da Vinci Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph alone reflects its unique status: on a single dial, it features a combination of a classic tourbillon, a chronograph and a retrograde date. IWC’s watchmakers have designed the new in-house 89900 calibre to make this distinctive constellation possible.
