Her Excellency Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, has been awarded the prestigious Marisa Bellisario Award, one of Italy’s highest honours recognising exceptional women whose leadership has made a significant impact across diplomacy, government, business, science, culture and humanitarian work.

The award was presented during the 38th Marisa Bellisario Award ceremony in Rome by Antonio Tajani, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Ahead of the ceremony, Al Hashimy also attended a reception hosted by Italian President Sergio Mattarella in honour of this year’s recipients.

Widely regarded as one of Europe’s most respected recognitions of female leadership, the award acknowledges Al Hashimy’s longstanding contribution to international diplomacy, strategic partnerships and global cooperation. It also reflects growing international recognition of the UAE’s commitment to empowering women in leadership and public service.

Throughout her career, Al Hashimy has played a pivotal role in strengthening the UAE’s international relations and fostering dialogue across regions. She also led the organisation of Expo 2020 Dubai, a landmark event that showcased the UAE on the global stage while highlighting the role of women in driving innovation and sustainable development through initiatives such as the Women’s Pavilion.

Accepting the honour, Al Hashimy dedicated the award to Emirati women, describing it as a reflection of the UAE leadership’s vision in empowering women to contribute confidently to the nation’s development and international engagement. She also noted that the recognition comes at a significant moment in UAE-Italy relations, following President Sergio Mattarella’s State Visit to the UAE earlier this year and as Italy celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic.

Previous recipients of the International Award include Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Nobel Peace Prize laureates Aung San Suu Kyi and Nadia Murad, placing Al Hashimy among an esteemed group of internationally recognised women leaders.
