The waistline is heading south for AW26, as drop-waisted dresses and elongated silhouettes appeared throughout the collections.

There is an obvious nod to the 1920s, particularly at Chanel, where Matthieu Blazy continues to reinterpret house signatures established during Gabrielle Chanel’s Jazz Age heyday.

After years in which the waist was either cinched tightly or positioned extraordinarily high, dropping it completely changes the proportions of familiar dresses and skirts, proof that sometimes the smallest adjustment can make clothes feel entirely new.
