Zimmermann’s Spring 2027 Collection Embraces the Power of Transformation

For Spring 2027, Zimmermann explores the idea of quiet strength through softness, fragility and the ever-changing states of nature.

At the centre of the collection is the butterfly, a symbol of resilience and transformation that informs both its visual language and intricate craftsmanship.

“For Spring 2027, I kept coming back to three ideas: strength, movement and colour,” says Nicky Zimmermann, Creative Director. “As I worked on the collection, I found myself drawn to the butterfly, not because of its delicacy, but because of its resilience. There’s a real strength in the way it moves and constantly transforms, and that became an important thread throughout the collection.”

The concept of a kaleidoscope, defined as both a constantly changing pattern and a collective noun for a group of butterflies, provides a fitting framework for the collection. Inspired by the 19th-century scientific illustrations of Harriet and Helena Scott, butterflies appear across fluid silhouettes and detailed embellishment, while movement is expressed through asymmetric hemlines and trailing tendrils.

The collection opens with appliquéd butterflies and petals scattered across a gilded bodice before moving through a similarly eclectic mix of references. Creative influences include directors Gillian Armstrong and Kim Gehrig, alongside the atmospheric colour washes of painter Lara Merrett.

Colour follows the changing light of the day. Tailored satin separates in lemon and pink give way to dusky blues, lilac and dark denim, while softened drill, lace and liquid silks are combined through cascading drapes, layered textures and precise detailing. Lifelike laser-cut butterflies move with the body, while wide-leg culottes bring ease to the silhouettes.

Craft remains central throughout. Botanical illustrations are translated into prints and life-sized laser-cut motifs across organza and denim, while sheer organza skirts layered with silk burnout butterflies create contrasts between lustrous and matte surfaces. Denim is further elevated through demi-couture techniques, with laser-cut florals and wave-like flares taking the fabric from day into evening.

The butterfly’s symbolism of optimism and possibility provides a throughline for Zimmermann’s continued exploration of craft and technique. Accessories extend the collection’s language with a new elongated shoulder bag and clutch, the latest iteration of the Cloud 91 bag with floral denim detailing, oversized sunglasses and printed silk scarves.
