Is Phoebe Philo Leaving Celine?

A post shared by Céline Official (@celine) on

Fashion rumour mill is spinning this morning with the news that Phoebe Philo might be exiting Celine.

Several sources have reported that LVMH, the luxury group conglomerate who own the brand, are interviewing designers to replace the current creative director. There are no details of when Philo will depart her current role, but some believe it won’t be in the near future.

For many in the industry this will come as a shock as for almost 10 years Philo has been the soul of Celine delivering minimalist high end designs that made everyone want to be part of her style movement. Her latest SS18 collection was met with rave reviews for once again showcasing timeless well cut pieces that surpass any trends.

We are yet to hear the official announcement, but it is believed Philo will stay on until the end of the year while the company goes through the potential list of candidates as her replacement. They have some big Celine shoes to fill.

One Of The Largest Diamonds In The World Comes To Dubai

de GRISOGONO diamond christie's

Every wondered what 163 carat diamond looks like? We got to see it up close as the de GRISOGONO tour of Creation 1 comes to Dubai.

The sparkling jewel is on a global venture before making it’s final journey to Geneva to be auctioned off in partnership with Christie’s. The D-Colour Type IIA of flawless clarity is the largest to ever come to auction and the entire masterpiece is worth upwards of $30 million – so it’s pretty special.

de GRISOGONO diamond christie's

After being discovered in early 2016 in eastern Angola, it took months of analyses and cutting before falling under the masterful hands of Fawaz Gruosi and his team in De Grisogono headquarters. The challenge was to create a piece that can make a diamond of this size wearable and elegant. After going through 50 designs, Gruosi chose an asymmetric necklace with the 163 carat diamond as the centrepiece, enhanced with diamonds and emeralds.

He said, “I chose emeralds because I love the green colour and mixing it with other stones. And, being Italian, I am superstitious. Green means good luck – you will see a lot of it in my collections.”

De Grisogono christie's auction

Final design.

It took six months and 14 craftsmen and women to complete the design of this necklace that has a fluid shape and balances the stone at the centre perfectly. For an added creative flair, Gruosi designed the stone to be removable (with great care of course) so it can be worn on the specifically designed cuff bracelet. Once the necklace has an owner, de GRISOGONO will offer to work closely with them to create other designs, such a tiara or brooch featuring this impressive diamond.

Auction will take place on November 14 in Geneva.

Expert Tip: Hair Trends For Fall 17

New season calls for a new do and it can be as subtle as a fresh brush of colour to daring cuts that offer a complete transformation.

Majority of the runways played along the thin line of drama and simplicity. Think ponytails tied with a velvet bow as seen at Temperley London, glossed swept back styles spotted at Sportmax to techinicolour hair extensions at Versace and retro fringes at Moschino.

Leading hair stylists, and part of the Rossano Ferretti Hair Spa team, Jennie Davies gives us a breakdown on what hair trends are going to be big this fall.

Brunettes Have More Fun

The trends for the new winter season we will be seeing a lot of warm rich brunette tones with hints of mocha, and warm golden blondes with a root shadow.

Runway Inspiration: Brandon Maxwell and Victoria Beckham

Over The Rainbow

For the braver fashionista’s we will still be seeing rainbow colours but brighter and bolder than last seasons pastel tones.

Runway Inspiration: Versace and Dolce & Gabbana

Rock n Retro

The 70’s style messy curly hair, and very long eye skimming fringes are back with some force. Think shaggy grunge combined with a touch of glamour.

You Can Now Shop Gianni Versace Archive Pieces

Farfetch has partnered with William Vintage to bring you the edit of Gianni Versace archive pieces.

Many would argue that one of the most iconic moments of Fashion Week SS18 was the tribute to Gianni Versace during the Versace runway show. Donatella Versace marked 20 years since the death of her brother with a throwback to the classic pieces and with the help of super models Carla Bruni, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, and Helena Christensen.

Gianni Versace Archive

From this month you can be part of this historical tribute as the online store releases over 500 archival pieces spanning from 1977 right through to Versace’s final show of 1997. It is one of the largest vintage collections to ever be on sale that took nearly two years to put together. Expect iconic scarf prints, bold colours, punk influenced eighties and nineties favourites and medusa jewellery.

Gucci Says No To Fur

gucci ss18 fur

Gucci SS18 Runway Show.

Gucci has announced that it will go fur free starting with SS18 collection.

Marco Bizarri, CEO of the Italian fashion house that has widely used mink, rabbit as well as kangaroo for their famous fur-lined backless loafers, claimed it ‘not modern’ and added that they will be joining Fur Free Alliance.

Speaking in London he said, “Being socially responsible is one of Gucci’s core values, and we will continue to strive to do better for the environment and animals. With the help of HSUS and LAV, Gucci is excited to take this next step and hopes it will help inspire innovation and raise awareness, changing the luxury fashion industry for the better.”

This may seem like a bold move for the brand, but their parent company Kering has been making moves towards creating synthetic leathers and developing further sustainable strategies.

Many fashion houses like Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Giorgio Armani and Ralph Lauren have also shifted their aesthetic with Net-A-Porter banning sale of fur and Stella McCartney refusing to use animal products from day one.

Editors Pick: Are Logos In Or Out?

A post shared by NET-A-PORTER (@netaporter) on

Just when you thought everyone had enough of the logomania, designers have come up with new ideas for this, and the next season. Acne Studio offer artistic totes while Off-White’s statement boots with ‘FOR WALKING’ printed on them have been stomping the streets of fashion week.

Some urbanites wear logos boldly, while others choose a single piece to do all the talking. But is it all getting a bit too loud? Is this trend a good investment or a temporary piece of fun? Read what the editors of A&E think:

Eliza Scarborough, Deputy Editor/ Fashion Director
This time around logos are more multifaceted than in their flashy past. Unlike the pack mentality of the original logomania, wearing a logo today has far more to do with individuality and irreverence, and is a refreshing change from refined minimalism.

Charline Deek, Senior Editor at A&E Arabia
I think that the Logo trend will be appreciated by those who love to say out loud what they are wearing. In my opinion, I don’t think this trend will stand the test of time, since people who are really engaged in buying luxury brands are the ones who like to keep it private. They purchase and wear labels because they love them, not to be appreciated by the society rules of luxury.

Dana Mortada, Editor
Today, many designers have been on the forefront of this new luxe trend, whether it’s on T-shirts, headbands or bags- the creativity varies. Clearly there is a sweet spot for logo pieces, which brings a great sense of nostalgia for young customers to indulge over their favourite brands.

Diana Bell-Heather, Online Editor of aeworld.com
I love a bold statement as much as the next person, but would I spend an eye watering amount on a logo covered item that will become irrelevant next season? Probably not. If you are partial to a logo, then get something personalised or choose a piece that has more meaning to you, that way it will always feel wearable.

Interior Tip: Decorate Your Home Like Five-Star Hotel

aeworld.com interior five star hotel

Ethan Allen.

aeworld.com interior five star hotel

Ethan Allen.

We all love a getaway to a five-star hotel. The opulent furnishing, fine decorations and plush carpets and now you can bring some of that glamour to your home.

We picked the brain of Azadeh Moeini, Senior Designer at Ethan Allen, on the best ways to give your own sanctuary a luxury hotel setting.

Start Small

It’s best to start with a small entryway table. Whether it be marble, wood or shiny lacquer, adding a pretty lamp or flower arrangement can be your starting point. If the table is against the wall, then place a statement mirror or a piece of art above the table.

Pick Your Fabric

Curtains are always well-designed in a luxury living setting. Pick fabrics that suit your taste while matching the rest of your décor to maintain a luxurious look. Think silks; damask.

Quality Is Key

Always decorate your home with good quality furniture and materials. Things you especially shouldn’t take lightly would be flooring, go for classic materials such as marble and timber. Choose certain furniture or decor pieces with character, for instance, consoles that have been hand painted to look like antique pieces or customized carpets.

Trust In Art

Create a focal point and give your space a “wow” factor by hanging an oversized piece of art. This look is chic and definitely has a high impact.

De-clutter

Pare down your collection and only retain pieces that have sentimental value. Give your space a sense of wisdom and incorporate pieces with some patina and age to them. Anything from a mirror to a small side table or accessory will do the trick, and remember the older the better.

Mix and Match

A layered and carefully thought mix of materials and textures will give your space a custom-designed and luxurious look. Mix metals, glass, wood, a variety of textiles and leather items to create a dynamic, inviting space.
