Five Natural Face Masks To Help Soothe Summer Skin

During the warmer months, our skin can need a little extra care – especially after sun exposure.

Here are five soothing, natural face mask ideas to help when skin is particularly sensitive. Remember to cleanse your face before applying any mask, and do a patch test before using a new ingredient to ensure you’re not allergic or sensitive to it.

Cucumber and Aloe Vera Mask

Cucumber has a cooling effect and helps hydrate the skin, while aloe vera soothes and moisturises. Blend or mash half a cucumber and mix it with 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 15-20 minutes.

Yoghurt and Honey Mask

Yoghurt contains lactic acid to gently exfoliate, while honey provides hydration and has antibacterial properties. Mix 2 tablespoons of plain yoghurt with 1 tablespoon of raw honey. Apply the mixture to your face and let it sit for about 20 minutes.

Oatmeal and Milk Mask

Oatmeal is soothing and can help calm irritated skin, while milk adds a softening effect. Blend 1/3 cup of oatmeal into a fine powder, and then mix it with enough milk to form a paste. Apply the paste to your face and allow it to dry for 15-20 minutes.

Papaya and Honey Mask

Papaya contains enzymes that can gently exfoliate and brighten the skin, while honey adds hydration. Mash a ripe papaya and mix it with 1 tablespoon of honey. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 15-20 minutes.

Green Tea and Aloe Vera Mask

Green tea has antioxidants that can soothe and protect the skin from environmental stressors. Brew a cup of green tea and let it cool. Mix 2 tablespoons of green tea with 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel. Apply the mixture to your face and rinse off after 15-20 minutes.

As always be sure to consult with a dermatologist if you have specific skin concerns or conditions.
