Sheikha Amal Al Maktoum, Founder of Azzalia discusses the successes of Emirati women and what she still aims to achieve.
What does celebrating Emirati Women’s Day mean to you?
Over the years Emirati women have proved their ability, their intelligence, their dedication to our country and this a great day where we celebrate us as Emirati women. On this special day, we celebrate our achievements and our dreams that came true. None of this would have been possible without the support of our country which enables us to progress and gives us the right to thrive and grow.
How would you assess the journey of Emirati women so far in terms of their achievements?
I think Emirati women have proved themselves over the years and started taking great positions in society. We have female minister, Emirati women in the army, and they are all pushing themselves in different industries and inspiring not only UAE women, but women all over the world. The Emirati woman is strong and she’s dedicated to her job, her family and her career. We are proud to have powerful and confident women from this country. I again thank our great government for giving us the platform to grow and penetrate different industries and show that Arab women can serve different aspects of the community.
What is your biggest achievement so far?
I think I’ve achieved a lot throughout the last 15 years but my biggest achievement is being a mother of three beautiful children, I have also achieved a lot throughout my career in education where I contributed to developing and supporting the graduation of many students while training them for their own future careers. I feel in that way I helped my country but it was something very minor compared to what my country is giving to me.
The other achievement I am very proud of is starting my fashion career, building my own brand and growing it so quickly over the last 6 years.
As an Emirati woman, what do you still aim to achieve?
As an Emirati woman, my achievements don’t stop, I will always try to thrive and expand my dreams, especially around my passion for fashion and my brand Azzalia. If I get other further opportunities I’ll always go for it. I am always ready and here to help and contribute to the success of my beloved country.
What is your personal motto?
My personal motto is never to stop giving, give to your family, give to your work, help others, support other women and guide them when they need it.
Who is a woman that inspires you?
The woman who inspired me so much is Her Highness Sheikha Fatma Bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation. She has been such an inspiring figure in the UAE, she has inspired and supported Emirati women to reach their goals and she has given us a platform of positivity, support and generosity.
What is a message you would send to Emirati ladies on this day of celebration?
To all Emirati women, my message to you is to never stop. Always follow your dreams and your passion, this will keep you happy and productive, don’t stop learning, don’t stop working, do everything you love…Give and love!
