Last night, Tom Ford returns to New York City with a ’90s throwback glory kicking off the Spring Summer 2018 season.

The designer went full on with his signature glamour, while all the requisite supermodels of today’s time like Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Joan Smalls cascaded the runway sporting pixie cuts and dazzling evening gowns with bold shoulders.

Ford explained to The Business of Fashion it was “a throwback in a way to the spirit” of when he was the creative at Gucci, a turning point that made him famous in the industry. The Park Avenue Armory brought on a parade of bright coloured crystallized T-shirts and sharp suits.

Whether it was about the models hairstyle, the exaggerated shoulders or the slouchy trousers, Ford’s message for the coming season was crystal clear: he is recapturing the glam of the ’90s.

Fearless as ever, Tom introduced the new women’s jacket, expertly cut in fabulous fabrics and textures with broad shoulders and peaked lapels, models wore it confidently with rolled up shorts, backless jumpsuits and high-waist pants.

One must say that this show was an extravagant start to the fashion. Let’s see what the rest of the designers have in store for us.
