Stella McCartney announces the on-sale date for the Frayme Mylo™️, the world’s first-ever luxury bag crafted from mycelium to be sold at a commercial level.

For the environmentally fashion-conscious consumer, this one is for you! In a milestone mark not only for the brand but also for fashion history and innovation, Stella McCartney is the first brand to launch a vegan bag that is created from mycelium, the root-like structure of fungi and recycled chain. Stella McCartney partners with sustainable solutions brand Bolt Threads, to produce a unique and progressive accessory.

The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world and luxury fashion brand Stella McCartney is ready for change. Since 2017, the brand has built a long-term partnership with Bolt Threads, the creators of Mylo™ and a company whose mission is to create better materials for a better world by developing sustainable solutions for the apparel and beauty industries. Stella McCartney is part of the journey, combining deep science with high-fashion design.

It’s been an honor to partner so closely with Stella and her team as they break new ground in luxury fashion with Mylo. Their category defining leadership of animal-free fashion and championship of sustainable materials is paving a path forward towards a more responsible fashion industry. Bringing the first-ever luxury bag made from Mylo to market is a massive milestone for conscientious consumers, the biomaterials industry, and the future of luxury fashion” – Dan Widmaier, Founder & CEO, Bolt Threads

Titled ‘The Frayme Mylo™’ this luxury bag is handcrafted by Italian artisans who have a deep understanding of the mycelium-based material which is a sustainable alternative to animal leather, and creates the same high-quality, strong effect. This vegan mushroom bag is a new Stella icon making a progressive statement in the fashion industry. Included in the design is an oversized recyclable aluminium chain strap that runs around the bag as well as a zamac statement medallion.

The bag was first introduced to the fashion industry at the brand’s Summer 2022 runway show in October 2021 at Paris Fashion Week, and this next commercial launch forms part of the brands wider Summer 2022 campaign titled ‘Fashion Fungi’.

This is the next step in fashion innovation, a clap for Stella McCartney and Bolt Threads for bringing this into the light. We can’t wait to see what comes next!

The Frayme Mylo is exclusive to Stella McCartney boutiques from 1st July.
