Gucci launched the Dionysus Milan bag last December, now Gucci presents a whole collection of Dionysus special edition handbags, dedicated to eight other dynamic world cities. As with the Dionysus Milan, the new Dionysus models are evolutions of the house’s iconic Dionysus Bag. Together they form an exclusive collection. Only limited quantities per city will be released, and all will be available exclusively at the flagship Gucci store in these leading metropolises of the world: Rome, New York, London, Paris, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Dubai.
Distinguished by its striking double tiger-head closure – a unique detail referencing the Greek god Dionysus, who in myth is said to have transformed himself into a tiger to carry a young nymph across the river that then became known as the Tigris – the Dionysus bag has fast become one of the house’s most celebrated new designs.
The Dionysus City bags use the distinctive GG Supreme material with its contemporary take on the Gucci G pattern. This canvas acts as a background for the decorations that customise and distinguish each city’s bag: for example, Dubai features starfish and dragonflies, and London, a snake and roses.
Within each bag there is an embroidered leather patch displaying a bee motif and the name of the city to which it is dedicated. These patches have different colours – rose for Tokyo, bright bougainvillea for New York, aqua for Rome, green for Dubai, soft burgundy for Hong Kong, white for Paris, red for Shanghai and blue for London.
The Dionysus City bags will be available from Gucci stores in the eight featured cities from January 2016.
