Rotterdam is the place to discover new artists this spring. A small but influential fair, Art Rotterdam, brings together video art projections and installations from Holland and further afield.
Galleries taking part this year include The White House from Belgium, who look after sculptor Caroline Coolen, who transforms banal everyday object by placing them in surprising environments – definitely one to watch.
The fair encourages people new to art to start collecting with an exhibition of art for under 1,500 Euros from up and coming artists. It’s the place to find new galleries as well, with young spaces encouraged to exhibit. A new gallery worth watching is Billytown from Holland, who have photographer Maurice van Es on their books. The British Journal of Photography named him as last year’s ‘one to watch’ while he’s won several German awards.
Around the art fair there’s pop up shows and free buses operate between the fair and the museum district as the entire celebrates the next generation in art.
