Dubai is set to bring back its International Film Festival in December 2027, with the revived event placing Arab cinema at the centre of its programme.
The festival will open on the 8th of December next year in a new format, marking its first edition since the original event ended a decade ago.
The Middle East-focused edition will feature films and filmmakers from across the region, while creating opportunities for directors, producers, actors and writers to connect with audiences and professionals working across the industry.
The announcement was made by Mona Ghanem Al-Marri, vice chairperson and managing director of the Dubai Media Council and chairperson of the Arab Media Summit’s Organising Committee.
The relaunched festival is intended to take a broader approach to the film industry, incorporating screenings alongside professional discussions, talent discovery and knowledge exchange. The initiative will also place particular emphasis on filmmakers at the beginning of their careers.
Through the new format, emerging talent will have opportunities to gain industry experience, build their skills and further develop their expertise. The festival will therefore combine a public programme with opportunities for creative and professional exchange, establishing a platform for Arab filmmakers and the wider regional cinema community.
