They promise an exquisite exhibition depicting the complete immersion, professionalism and passion these artists have for what they do. They are ready to take viewers on a journey through exotic cultures, ancestral techniques and abstract visions of nature. Both artists draw strong reference to their Moroccan heritage and have created unique works for this event.

Yasmina Alaoui is a New York born artist of French and Moroccon descent. For her first solo show in the region, she has created beautiful unseen works, combining sand, gravel and minerals on canvas. The underlying themes behind all her works deal directly with her experience of a multicultural upbringing and aim to bridge extremes by embracing opposites: secular and holy, classical and contemporary, order and chaos, repulsion and attraction.

Yassine Mekhnache began his career as a self-taught street artist in France and his canvases form the material tale of a long journey spanning three continents, cultures, traditions and talents. The journey begins in France where he conceptualises his artworks which are an intricate combination of embroidery, painting and beading. The adventure then progresses to Morocco, where certain parts of the canvas are embroidered using ancestral Arabesque patterns. Local women in a small village infuse their culture and tradition into the artworks before the canvases then travel to India for intricate beadwork. The last leg of the journey takes place in France, where Yassine adds the finishing touches; a very elegant display of colours, giving life to the birds and to the underlying portraits in the background. ‘The Conference of the Birds’ series takes the viewers on a journey demonstrating true art in an Opera Gallery exclusive.
