Its appeal shows little sign of fading, but the luxury SUV landscape is becoming increasingly varied. A new generation of models is giving regional drivers more options to explore, from high-performance hybrids and discreet off-roaders to vehicles shaped by bespoke craftsmanship and supercar engineering. From the desert-ready Lexus LX to Lamborghini’s fastest Urus yet, these are the six luxury SUVs offering compelling alternatives to the familiar G-Class.
Defender OCTA Black
The Defender has always possessed the utilitarian credentials to rival the G-Class, but the OCTA Black brings a more dramatic sense of luxury and performance to the formula. Almost every visible exterior element has been finished in black, creating a commanding look that feels particularly suited to the Middle East.
Beneath its imposing bodywork is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo mild-hybrid V8 producing 635PS. Its 6D Dynamics suspension is designed to deliver greater control both on the road and across challenging terrain, while a dedicated OCTA Mode optimises the vehicle for high-performance off-road driving. Inside, semi-aniline leather, Kvadrat textiles and optional carbon-fibre details soften the Defender’s traditionally rugged character without diminishing its sense of purpose.
Lexus LX 700h Overtrail
While many contemporary luxury SUVs are increasingly focused on speed, the Lexus LX 700h Overtrail retains a more traditional understanding of four-wheel-drive capability. Its body-on-frame construction is joined by front and rear locking differentials, 33-inch all-terrain tyres and a protective front skid plate, giving it the engineering required to travel far beyond the city.
The Overtrail also introduces electrification to the Lexus flagship through a 3.4-litre twin-turbo V6 hybrid system. The Bentayga Speed approaches the luxury SUV from a very different direction. Rather than presenting itself as an expedition vehicle, Bentley has created a grand tourer with the elevated driving position, space and versatility of an SUV.
Its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 650PS and 850Nm of torque, allowing the Bentayga Speed to reach 100km/h in approximately 3.6 seconds and continue to a top speed of 310km/h. Yet its performance is only part of the appeal. The cabin can be extensively personalised with an exceptional selection of leathers, veneers, embroidery and contrast finishes, while Bentley’s Mulliner division allows clients to take the commissioning process even further. It is a compelling choice for those who want power without sacrificing traditional craftsmanship.
Aston Martin DBX S
Aston Martin’s DBX S brings the elegance and performance of the British marque’s sports cars into a more practical form. Its sculpted proportions are sleeker than the upright G-Class, but details including a honeycomb grille, stacked exhaust outlets and an assertive rear spoiler give it plenty of visual impact.
The upgraded 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 727PS and 900Nm of torque, taking the DBX S from zero to 100km/h in around 3.3 seconds. Optional magnesium wheels, a carbon-fibre roof and a lightweight polycarbonate grille reduce weight, while herringbone-patterned upholstery gives the interior its own distinctive identity. It is less concerned with conquering remote landscapes than turning every drive into an occasion.
Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II
The Cullinan Series II remains the most opulent interpretation of the luxury SUV. Its imposing proportions have been sharpened through vertical daytime running lights, a redesigned illuminated grille and more expressive surfaces, while its elevated cabin retains the serenity expected of a Rolls-Royce.
The defining feature, however, is the opportunity for personalisation. Clients can develop individual paint colours, commission embroidered motifs and select from an extraordinary range of materials through the marque’s Bespoke division. New interior details include a Clock Cabinet displaying a miniature Spirit of Ecstasy and Duality Twill upholstery incorporating millions of individual stitches. While the Cullinan possesses all-wheel drive and formidable capability, its greatest luxury is the sense that almost every element can be created for one owner alone.
Lamborghini Urus SE Performante
Lamborghini’s latest Urus represents the most performance-focused model in this line-up. Revealed in July 2026, the Urus SE Performante combines a twin-turbo V8 with plug-in hybrid technology to produce 812CV and 1,000Nm of torque.
Capable of reaching 100km/h in 3.3 seconds, it is the fastest Urus Lamborghini has produced. Revised aerodynamics, a new suspension system and a more focused chassis are intended to deliver greater precision, while the sharply cut bodywork leaves no doubt about its supercar lineage. Yet it retains the four doors, luggage space and everyday usability that made the original Urus so successful. For drivers who want their luxury SUV to make an immediate statement, this may be the G-Class alternative with the greatest visual and emotional impact.
