The heavenly South Pacific isles of Samoa have been an under the radar secret for far too long. Think paradise on earth, white sandy beaches and some of the best coral reefs in the world. And now there are even more reasons to visit.

February will see the Vailima Marist Samoa Rugby 7s, while in April the island will hold the first Savaii Games, which include a marathon over lava fields and a 22.3 km swim between the islands.

If Stand Up Paddleboarding is more your kind of thing, the first SUP Regatta will also take place this in 2016, over a week in August at three stunning tropical locations.

The island’s culture can be seen best during the annual Teuila Festival in September. It will include traditional Siva Samoa dance competitions, choral performances, fire knife dancing, tattooing and carving workshops and lots more.

2016 is also the 54th anniversary of the Polynesian islands’ independence. 1 June will see the islands celebrating with parades, boat races and parties.

And with a backdrop of lush forests, clear seas and sunny skies you might never leave.
