The Bulgari Luna Blue Diamond – previously made famous by being worn to the 2023 Met Gala by Priyanka Chopra Jonas – has sold for more than AED 91.8 million (over US$25 million).
The actress is a global ambassador for Bulgari, and regularly wears their high end pieces to exclusive events.
The recent sale took place as part of Sotheby’s Geneva Luxury Week, after a four-minute bidding battle.
Initially mounted as a ring by Bulgari, the stunning 11.16 carat blue “fancy vivid” diamond had been part of a private family collection since the 1970s, being seen by very few people prior to its red carpet debut at the Met Gala this year.
Blue diamonds, of any kind and any size, are among the rarest in the world. Any blue diamond qualifying as “fancy vivid” (the brightest hue a diamond can display), as well as being over 10 carats is extremely rare.
There are less than 10 known diamonds in the category which have been auctioned in recent decades, and its unlikely another will be auctioned anytime soon.
