Paris Fashion Week AW17: Miu Miu

From the word ‘go’ the theme of the Miu Miu AW17 collection was clear; fur, fur and more fur. The invites were made from a fun and tactile purple faux fur, and on arrival guests were faced with a giant fur-lined purple staircase.

There was a distinct hip-hop and streetwear influence as models bounced down the run way to the funky cool sounds of De la Soul. The fur was exaggerated in proportion and came in a rainbow of pastel colours, from pale yellow to lilac. There were over-size fur baker-boy caps, giant fur collars on clear plastic jackets and fur trimmed boots and shoes.

The prints were mod and conversational, complementing the colour scheme well and featuring telephones, cats and leaves on long flowing dresses.

There was a distinct nod to sportswear, with some jackets resembling tight fitting retro ski jackets, sporty stripes on knitwear with number appliqués adorning shoulders, and fur collared bomber jackets with a satin sheen. There was even a tennis dress style pleated skirt on a mini dress, although the sporty touch was offset by a high neck of sparkling encrusted white jewels adding to the over-the-top and fun feel. Giant matt-shine sequins also gave a youthful feminine touch and stopped anything looking too streetwear or serious.

It’s a tough job to round off Paris Fashion Week in front of a runway weary crowd, but Miuccia Prada often provides some light-hearted relief with her Miu Miu collections and this season was certainly no different.
