The Qatari award-wining designer has been making headway since she first launched her debut collection, Prologue, in 2015 which was a dramatically playful yet elegant line, combining pastels with bold colours in timeless silhouettes inspired by geometric shapes. Structure and shapes happen to be a common thread that runs through to her second collection named Act 1: La Flor de Cereus.
Her latest collection is inspired by the beauty of the Spanish desert landscape with its clear blue skies and rough yet delicate flora. La Flor de Cereus, Spanish for the night-blooming cereus, is expressed in Hissa’s garments by the delicate beading seen throughout the line. Her elegant standout designs are versatile and therefore suitable for day and night wear.
HZ by Hissa Zainal is a stunning ready-to-wear label that marries dramatic avant-garde sensibility with timeless simplicity. The fashion designer said: “I’m heavily inspired by architecture and geometric shapes. I look at international colour forecasting to make sure I stay current with my direction, but I don’t really care for trends, as we always strive to stay true to our philosophy. For me, it’s all about flattering garments that bring out a woman’s natural beauty. Once I have our ideas in place I move on to production. I work with the best manufacturing units and best suppliers in the region to ensure consistent high quality.”
