For the first leg of her world tour, the Colombian singer-songwriter travelled with her two kids and partner, football player Gerard Piqué, to the place where her grandparents on father’s side were born before immigrating to New York.

In honour of the star’s Lebanese heritage, the singer marked her visit by planting two cedar trees in the nature reserve. One of the trees was named after her, while the other was dedicated to her family.

Later that day during the mountaintop concert, Shakira performed her hits and songs from her 11th album, El Dorado. She also shared her excitement about being in such a ‘magical setting’ with the 12,000 attendees and added:

“This means so much to me to be singing in the land of my grandparents. I feel so proud of these cedars, so proud of my heritage and so proud of you.”

Cedars International Festival is one of the biggest musical festivals hosted in Lebanon each summer.
