The eagerly awaited Dubai Opera House will officially open tonight with Spanish tenor Placido Domingo performing at the opening show. This new addition to the city is an exciting one, as aims to mark Dubai as the cultural hub of the Middle East take charge. “It certainly couldn’t be said that Dubai has no culture; it’s got an enormous amount of culture,” Dubai Opera’s chief executive Jasper Hope told The Associated Press on Tuesday. ”What it hasn’t had is a world-class stage, a world-class facility to display that culture…“What Dubai Opera offers is an opportunity now for people to know that there is a home — a true home — for world-class culture here in Dubai.”

With over 70 performances announced over the first four months of it’s opening and with many shows already sold out, the Dubai Opera House is certainly an eagerly anticipated and fresh addition to the city of glitz and glam. The architecture of the building has also drawn attention, designed to emulate a traditional dhow boat to mark the region’s maritime history and covered in glass to reflect it’s impressive surroundings such as it’s neigbour, the Burj Khalifa. The venue will be able to seat 2,000 and will feature comfortable leather seating with dark hues and private luxury boxes for a more intimate and special experience. We certainly cannot wait to experience this place for ourselves and add yet another new and cultural activity to our list!
