MILAN FASHION WEEK AW17: FENDI

Prior to Karl Lagerfeld’s AW17 Fendi show today in Milan, the brand announced that their iconic double F logo would be making a return. It did in the form of making up the pattern of the runway and giving a ’70’s style geometric print vibe to the setting.

Fendi says they they have ‘blended the dualism of masculinity and femininity from 1925 to 2017’ and the show opened with plenty of menswear references in the form of grey wool jackets and suits in Prince of Wales check. Luxurious touches were added by brown fur lined cuffs and collars. Bella Hadid looked stunning as she made her entrance in an oversize white shirt dress and black tuxedo blazer, styled with a thigh-scraping pair of red boots; the epitome of relaxed menswear inspired chic.

The palette was rich and autumnal and complemented the ’70’s style geo prints perfectly. A parade of grey, rich orangey brown, black and bright red marched down the runway and all the models wore thigh high shiny red boots. In the middle of the show, a teal fur coat with brown collar stood out from the crowd in its rich jewel tone.

Knitwear looked fresh with cut-outs in the design in a laser-cut effect to reveal body suits underneath. However, the main strength was outerwear and Lagerfeld put some of his most high profile models in these pieces. Kendall Jenner wore a striking red coat styled with cool round-rimmed glasses, and Gigi Hadid wore a black wool coat with a luxe brown fur collar and sheer black sleeves; not practical but beautiful nonetheless.

There were also much more feminine pieces, with floaty silk dresses and sheer fabrications playing a big part as the show progessed. Lagerfeld displayed an excellent fusion of the masculine and the feminine with this show in a luxuriously autumnal way.
