Burberry is marking its 170th anniversary with ‘170: The Anniversary Portraits’, a new campaign centred on one of the house’s defining signatures: outerwear.

Lila Moss, London
The campaign explores how Burberry’s coats and jackets have been worn and interpreted across generations, with 170 individuals photographed across London, New York, Seoul and Shanghai.

Anthony Foster, New York
The campaign traces the role of weather in Burberry’s history, from founder Thomas Burberry’s early focus on protection and purpose to the house’s continued development of functional outerwear. According to Chief Creative Officer Daniel Lee, the collection reflects how Burberry’s outerwear has adapted to both changing weather and the way people dress. “Each portrait is different, but together they capture individuality and self-expression,” Lee says.

Ju Xiao Wen, Shanghai
Photographed by Jack Day and accompanied by a film directed by Hector Aponysus, the campaign takes inspiration from Burberry’s 2009 ‘Art of the Trench’ project. Each portrait is framed by the streets of the city in which its subject lives, highlighting how the same outerwear can take on a different character from one wearer to another.

Malachi Slue, London
The cast brings together street-cast locals with figures from art, literature, sport and music, alongside members of Burberry’s global team. Among those featured are Crush, Jamie Lloyd, Lila Moss, Lisa Love, Nico O’Reilly, OG Anunoby, Ruthie Rogers, Tan Yuanyuan, Xin Shuang and Yeonkoung Kim.

Taeo, Seoul
Ten outerwear designs feature throughout the campaign. The Heritage Collection is represented by the Long Kensington Heritage Trench Coat and Long Waterloo Heritage Trench Coat, while the Mid-length Camden Heritage Car Coat offers a more understated option for men. The classic trench silhouette is reworked in burgundy nappa leather through the Leather Kensington Trench Jacket and in cashmere with the Long Cashmere Kensington Trench Coat.

Lizzy Jagger, London
The collection also includes the Mid-length Hastings Trench Coat, the Shearling Collar Cashmere Cape and two puffer jackets featuring modern interpretations of House Check. Completing the line-up are the shearling-collared Quilted Nylon Rosedale Coat and the reversible Quilted Nylon Brighton Overshirt, which incorporates House Check on one side.
With its diverse cast and focus on the house’s outerwear codes, ‘170: The Anniversary Portraits’ presents Burberry’s heritage through individual interpretations of its most recognisable pieces.
