BMW has announced that it is expanding its next-generation electric line-up with the new iX4, a fully electric SUV coupé that combines the technology of its Neue Klasse platform with a more expressive, performance-focused design.

Set to launch in March 2027, the BMW iX4 will initially be offered in two variants, the iX4 50 xDrive and iX4 40 xDrive, followed shortly afterwards by the range-topping iX4 M60 xDrive. The latter will be available to order from January 2027 and produces up to 450 kW/612 hp and 875 Nm of torque, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds. BMW says it will have a maximum range of up to 777 kilometres, although these figures remain provisional.

“With the new fully electric BMW iX4, we are expanding the Neue Klasse portfolio with a particularly emotional vehicle,” says Mike Reichelt, Head of Neue Klasse, BMW Compact and Midsize Class. “Its striking proportions, elegant coupé silhouette and Neue Klasse technologies combine to create a truly distinctive character.”

The design combines a long wheelbase and short overhangs with a sloping roofline, giving the iX4 its distinctive coupé profile. At the front, BMW’s kidney grille and twin headlights merge into a single graphic element, while the rear features slim horizontal lights, sculpted surfaces and a pronounced spoiler. The M60 xDrive adds M-specific styling, including a special rear spoiler and M Shadowline kidney trim.

The interior continues the pared-back Neue Klasse approach, with large windows and a panoramic sunroof creating a light-filled cabin. The new BMW Panoramic iDrive brings together BMW Panoramic Vision, a 3D Head-Up Display, a 17.9-inch central display and a new sports steering wheel.

Underneath, the iX4 introduces BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology, featuring new cylindrical-cell batteries, 800V architecture and electric motors designed for greater efficiency. The iX4 50 xDrive develops 345 kW/469 hp and offers up to 828 kilometres of range, while its 400 kW charging capability can add up to 387 kilometres of range in 10 minutes under specified conditions.

The M60 xDrive also benefits from BMW’s Heart of Joy high-performance computer, which works with the company’s Dynamic Performance Control Driving Stack to manage propulsion and driving dynamics. BMW says the system operates ten times faster than previous systems.

With its combination of coupé styling, high-performance electric power and new-generation software and charging technology, the iX4 represents another step in BMW’s transition towards its Neue Klasse electric portfolio.
