Natacha Ramsay-Levi Presents Her First Resort Collection for Chloé

Natacha Ramsay-Levi continues to evolve the Chloé girl with her first take on the Resort 2019 collection for the house.

The silhouette is glamorous yet urban, the palette awash with powdery neutrals, marigold, navy, sage and saffron. considering an innate confidence by embracing allure, sharp and fluid shapes twist French classicism to channel the vital spirit of Chloé’s cinematic past.

Perennial daywear classics emphasize Chloé signatures, and a decisive focus on the dress as a staple of the Maison sees the concept of flou refined; slim, floating skirts kick at the calf, slash at the leg or fall into a pointed hem. Feminine lace is scalloped and striped, pieced into crepe de chine or zebra satin as a sensuous counterpoint. Flowing line prints, macro paisley, and tiny ‘forget-me-not’ flowers provoke a subtle and graphic clash.

Echoing the collection’s textural play, the Tess bag returns in spazzolato sfumatto leather or stamped croc calfskin, and the Roy is accented by a sporty framed logo. A future classic, the new Chloé bag closes with a polished ‘C’ clasp, featuring matte or shiny calfskin and two-tone metal hardware. On foot, sandals are draped with chains or webbed utility straps, mules cut away in scalloped water snake print, and tall Cuban boots are crafted in stamped croc.

Gold bracelets and rings reprise geometric shapes and artisanal finishes, whilst the horsehead becomes a pierced winding cuff. Suspended earrings are a patchwork of pearls, beaten metalwork, and the new Chloé ‘c’ logo. gilded cross-body jewellery (harnesses, chain belts) is worn independently or integrated into garments like delicate modern armour.

Strength, femininity and romance makes this collection a perfect interlude to next season.

Yesterday, the British Royal Family gathered to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II 92nd birthday with an annual Trooping the Colour parade.

Valmont: New Name in Luxury Perfumes

Valmont’s debut fragrance line Storie Veneziane is about creating exceptional scents, while also delivering authenticity, quality and an engaging story. A feeling of exclusivity is what the consumers want and this is what Valmont looks to deliver. The aim is to allow your nose to discover the journey of these five distinct scents and make them part of your own story.

CITY OF LOVE

Storie Veneziane is a story with different chapters. First chapter is the love for Venice which the owners of the brand, Sophie and Didier Guillon, are particularly fond of and have spent a significant time discovering the many sides of it. The second chapter takes a closer look at the woman with her many changing moods, while the third chapter takes us to the five vibrant neighbourhoods, each with it’s own story to tell.

FIVE SIDES TO THE STORY

The five perfumes captures the five personalities of a single woman as she goes through her day. The same woman can wear the fresh Verde Erba for the morning and then for the night she can try the moody Blu Cobalto. Rose is one of the hardest ingredients to get right in the fragrance and Valmont worked carefully on Rosso to deliver a perfume which hints of the rose buds, but in a subtle and elegant way.

CODE: LUXURY

Valmont have used velvet, gold, Murano glass mask and leather on the bottle and packaging  to further emphasise the niche positioning of the brand. However, their main focus is about creating an exceptional fragrance, a very concentrated scent with a real extract. Staying in the exclusive environment, the pieces are rare so in this region, you will only be able to find these gems at the Paris Gallery in the Dubai Mall.

ARABIAN SPIRIT

Valmont is international, but they have a very important market in the Middle East and for here, we would choose the Blu Cobalto, Rosso and Gaggia Medio.

NEXT STEP

All the perfumes have a Roman number for example Rosso I, Gaggia Medio I, so the natural next step is to further expand the range that offers something unique for those who truly appreciate luxury scents. After all, there’s always another story to tell.

Available now at Paris Gallery in the Dubai Mall.

Paul Surridge Presents his First Roberto Cavalli Men’s Collection

Paul Surridge’s vision for Roberto Cavalli has struck a chord with fans of the brand while at the same time creating a new audience of those who used to associate the label with overly-glamorous dressing. He continues this new approach with his first Men’s collection.

The past women’s shows have felt fresh and youthful with a modern take on classic codes of the house. The pieces still feel luxurious, but the new Cavalli man is contemporary who looks to dressing in a wearable and versatile way.

He opened with a selection of whiter than white looks including easy-going tailoring styled with polished sneakers. Then came the familiar animal print, but it wasn’t brash. Instead it came in a soft grey hue with the darker versions having a subtle shade of yellow going through them. The boldest item were the neon orange tiger print trousers after which Surridge introduced deep navy ensembles.

It was smooth introduction into the men’s collection offering elegance with just enough oomph.

Museum Inspired by Balenciaga to Open in London

London is adding more arts and culture to their already impressive offering with a Balenciaga-inspired museum.

Part of the transformation in East London, Victoria & Albert museum are building another location with the exterior designed to look as though it is wrapped in one of the Cristobal Balenciaga’s dresses from the 1950s.

The V&A East is a collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution in the US and will also be home to the museum’s new Collection and Research Centre, replacing its archive at Blythe House in west of the city. Set to open in 2023, Tristram Hunt, director of the museum, told the Evening Standard:

“V&A East will revolutionise how our world-class collections are accessed, create a new museum, and open up opportunities for collaboration, learning and discovery in ways we’ve never been able to before.”

Urban Cowboys at SS19 Saint Laurent Show in New York

Anthony Vaccarello has swapped the Eiffel Tower for the iconic Stature of Liberty for his latest SS19 show.

Facing Manhattan, the impressive open scaffoldings complete with a marble floor seem to be in conversation with the iconic New York skyline where models paraded in the latest pieces for the Parisian house. Vaccarello said in a statement:

“New York is freedom, a city brimming with energy and possibilities: the perfect backdrop to frame the spirit of this menswear collection. Crossing wardrobe boundaries, dressing women too.”

And how has he fused the aesthetics of the City of Lights with the City that Never Sleeps? The designer envisioned an urban macadam cowboy.  A seventies spirit evoked by short jackets paired with high-waisted trousers.  The iconic saharienne deeply explored and reinterpreted. Intricate embroideries and refined textures emphasize the sharp attitude of the collection. The hero pieces include embellished red bomber jacket, snakeskin footwear and wide brim hats.

The edgy codes of the house are present with skinny silhouettes, texture play on an all-black palette, razor-sharp tailoring with nods to the brand founders archives. The closing part of the show saw male models strut down in skin tight trousers, slim scarves with upper bodies covered in silver paint. It’s still Saint Laurent, but the Vaccarello way.

What You Might Have Missed at Men’s Milan Fashion Week

Dolce & Gabbana show. GETTY Images.

Dare we say that this season at Men’s Milan Fashion Week has been one of the most entertaining yet?

We admired Palazzo Mondadori dramatic setting at Ermenegildo Zegna , including a mirrored runway and drones to keep the guests engrossed. Dolce & Gabbana hosted another secret show alongside the scheduled Spring 2019 presentation where Naomi Campbell made an appearance in a pinstripe suit. The design duo also cast long-time friend of the brand Monica Bellucci, model of the 90’s Paul Coster, and rappers Wizkid and Tinie Tempah.

Philipp Plein got us in the mood for Wimbledon with a tennis-themed runway that saw models walk in the Plein Sport Spring collection, including Paris Hilton who closed the show.  Supermodels Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid made a surprise appearance at the Versace SS 2019 show, which was Jenner’s first runway walk in five months. Billionaire, also designed by Philipp Plein, chose a velvety hotel setting for their latest collection which included a new luggage line wheeled on trolleys by bell boys, and crocodile jackets for both men and their mini-me’s.

Miuccia Prada invited guests to a space just behind the brands headquarters for show where the shorts were as tiny as the logo’s, and bags were just as desirable as the women’s RTW. Alberta Ferretti was busy designing the Resort 2019 collection as well as a few capsule pieces alongside new looks for Alitalia airlines, but it’s the folk inspired dresses that left a lasting impression.

There was plenty to take away from the Milan shows. A vast majority of brands are striving to entice a younger audience while sticking to their codes. The SS19 man is intellectual and individual, someone who doesn’t strive to impress others, and yet makes a strong statement at any occasion.

How Moda Operandi is Nurturing Middle Eastern Designers and Growing Homeware

Lauren Santo Domingo has shown herself to be one of the strongest personalities in the world of e-commerce, and now she is pushing the digital boundaries once again.

Lauren Santo Domingo, or LSD on her Instagram, doesn’t like to sit still. Constantly tapping on the table while energetically talking about their latest project, it seems like her mind is constantly on, especially when it comes to her online empire Moda Operandi.

Passionate and enthusiastic about the shopping platform that she co-founded in 2011 as a digital access point to shop straight from the runway, it’s hard not to be drawn in and feel equally excited about their new venture into Home. Known for curating leading and emerging brands from around the world, Moda Operandi is lending it’s expertise and knowledge of what their customers like to a whole new part of the website, and it seems like Lauren can’t wait for it to officially launch this month.

With background in luxury publishing, LSD has been part of the fashion world for many years and is constantly on the lookout for new talent. Moda has been growing it’s presence in the Middle East for years with global scouts frequently visiting the region to find Arab designers and give them an international audience on their website such as Rami Al Ali, Huseein Bazaza, All Things Mochi, Madiyha Al Sharqi, Maison Yehya, Natalie Trad, Sem Sem and Bamba. Not only do they support these designers, but they also nurture their talent in order for them to continue expanding.

A global citizen, LSD is constantly on the move and with homes from New York to Paris and London, she has developed a keen eye for interiors and admits that she felt like she was ‘cheating on fashion’ with the amount of time she has been dedicating to their new lifestyle destination. Married with two kids, she talks to us about how Moda has evolved over the years and why she think launching into Home is the next big step for designers.

What has driven you to launch a permanent Home platform on Moda Operandi?

We’ve been doing a test of Home with three capsule collections with Cabana and we put up a couple more homeware lines this week. We did so much sales, and decided that we are launching into home. Based on our intelligence from the past three collections with Cabana and what we’ve done this week, we are launching into a full blown Home section for June. We have an amazing support system around it, we have customers that are eager for it so it’s something that’s deliberate, but I think it was something we were planning on doing in 2020 or even 2019 and then we really decided it’s something we wanted to do in a meaningful way.

How do you think it will do regionally?

One of our biggest customer basis for Home are from this region and what’s fascinating is that in Hong Kong or New York, women are buying things for sets of four, and here they’re buying sets for 300. It’s incredible. It immediately resonated with this region.

How keen were you to launch this new part of the business?

I always felt that I was cheating on fashion in the last couple of years because I’ve been excited about home. I would have just as much fun playing around with glasses, plates and napkins that I was with jewellery, shoes and dresses and I felt a little like I was cheating on fashion. My mother in law has an incredible taste, very old world South American so she entertains flawlessly so it’s something I’ve been really into over the past couple of years.

Is Home the next step designers should be thinking of?

When I grew up a designer didn’t make it until they had a homeware line. Calvin Klein Home, Donna Karen Home, Armani Casa, that’s how designer planted their flag in a ground and say we are a lifestyle brand, and that was the ultimate goal of all designers. We’ve seen in the last 10 years that designer never really made that leap, so while jumping into Home for me feels really rooted in tradition, this is what they should be doing.

We have a lot of fashion designers that we’re working with that want to grow their business and we are able to say to them ‘well let’s look at the designers in the past, let’s look at your business, you’re launching into Home, you’re a lifestyle brand now’. And we can help support them in a meaningful way.

A lot of the designers that we are working with, although they may be considered to be new like Erdem, Emilia Wickstead, Proenza Schouler, a lot of them are 10 years old and this is exactly the next step for them.

Which interior brand are you loving at the moment?

Since working on the launch of home, it’s hard to pick just one. One of my favorites for glassware is Lobmeyr. We worked with them to create floral tumblers that were inspired by vintage pieces. We also worked with D’Ascoli to recreate one of my favorite mud cloth tablecloths that I use for outdoor dinner parties.

Three easy ways to spruce up a room?

Explore quirky accent pieces that can be paired with lesser items. Coming from the girl who has a Lalanne hippo bar, unconventional does not equal random. Like your closet, mix vintage with emerging brands, as well as high to low. My home is always evolving with new discoveries with this mindset.  Lastly, never underestimate a good floral arrangement. My weekly fresh flowers are one indulgence I will never give up.

What are the ingredients to a great dinner party set up?

First and foremost, don’t have too many rules. It’s a party, not elementary school. Plan your seating strategically. Break up couples, pair someone over the top next to someone shy and always have an extra seat for any additions. For décor, mix and match and play with patterns and textures. Martina’s Cabana collection is dream bohemian tablescape.  You want your table to feel put together but not uptight. Have a wild floral arrangement or fun centerpiece to tie everything together.

The most treasured possession in your home?

My hardcover books. It’s the one way that I refuse to modernize.

What does your home say about you?

Fashion and décor should delight you and your friends. My M’O: is why be boring? I would describe my home and style as ‘twisted classic’—a timeless foundation peppered with pieces that make you look (and think) twice.

While in Dubai, you have also done a collaboration with Arabian Gazelles. How did that come about?

In the US there was an announcement of Saudi women being able to drive and I think in America is was right during the Me Too movement, so when it was announced it was such big news and I think women round the globe really celebrated this, and they saw a win for women in Saudi Arabia was a win for women everywhere. And then a couple of days later someone in my office said that they just heard of this group, the first all-female super car club in the UAE and there was part of me that felt maybe they partly helped spawn this change. I learnt all about the group and it seemed so inspiring, and although it’s in different areas, super cars and super shoppers, but there was a parallel.

Tell us a little bit about your partnership with Etihad.

Etihad has a big presence in the fashion world and we support so many designers in the region so it was a natural fit. They really get service, they get luxury, and when it comes to treating a customer with a certain level of care, that’s where our values are aligned. Both Etihad and Moda support regional and emerging designers.

How have you managed to grow your relationship with designers in this region?

So much of fashion is about trust and relationships. Once we launched Sem Sem and got behind her, it’s amazing how many connections she made and sent a lot of designers to us so as much as we’re scouting, there is a connective tissue in fashion. It just happens, we really value great taste and quality and I think these designer value great service and great customers so there is just a trust factor there.

What do you think of the talent in this region?

There is so much talent coming out of here because it is really authentic. Designer from this region get glamour, evening, going out and beading and evening bags. What’s coming out of here feels so right. They appeal to international audience and it elevates our platform for having a broad range of designers, and it elevates the product the designers are putting out because suddenly they are reaching an international audience so it elevates their point of view and challenges them to designing for new women. I think we bring out the best in each other, and the fact that a lot of the designer are really from this world of high fashion, they really get the customer, the product is really good, they evolve every season.

Which regional brands are you loving at the moment?

I love L’Afshar, Nathalie Tradd is amazing and now we have Marzook that have beautiful evening clutches that you can throw over any dress. Sem Sem is amazing to work with and Zayane the Label is so fun. The design transcends the region and suddenly the can be from London, Paris and New York. It informs the collection, but they are no longer a regional designer they are an international brand. All Things Mochi is great and we have a lot of beautiful, beaded evening like Rami Ali, Hussein Bazaza and Mrs Keepa.

How has social media effected the way people shop today?

Women are more curious and are searching for authenticity, and social media is about creating a narrative and a story. We always knew that e-commerce was going to grow. There’s a shift now to shop from social media and Whatsapp with personal stylists. Comfort level has shifted much faster than I expected and to see people to not even logging into the actual website and shopping over SMS, that I think was the biggest shock to me and I find myself doing that. Women are willing to shop anywhere, but if you think about women have always been willing to shop anywhere. Whether they’re in a departments store, or boutique or Duty Free and now the fact that they are shopping from different modes of social media shouldn’t be a surprise.

Moda changed the way we shop from the runway, how the Trunk Shows evolved over the years?

The more things change and the more modern we get, it’s all informed by the past. The idea of a Trunk Show and online was so modern and people couldn’t really grasp it but if you look at the origins of the trunk shows, that’s how women were shopping in the 1900’s. Reason they were called Trunk Shows is that collections will come from Paris in a steamer trunk on steamer ship to New York, women would place their orders and they would go back to France, make them and then send them. So idea of pre ordering your clothes it’s really an old fashion tradition.

How would you describe Moda Operandi today?

What we’ve done at Moda is to give women confidence to try new things. We always sold novelty pieces, the runway look, the feathered, the embroidery and things like that but now it’s almost exaggerated, we don’t sell simple pieces. We sell ruffles, prints, patterns, ruffles with embellishment, so I think that comes from women having the confidence. That comes down to trust, we earned it from the customer and designer and they feel confident shopping with us and it’s not just in terms of that you’re item is going to be delivered as exactly what you hoped for, but trust that designers that we placing in front of them and the styles we’re promoting are things that are cool and they trust us to push the boundaries.

What would you say is one of the biggest Moda Operandi highlights?

One of our first big sales in fine jewellery was a couple of 100,000 US dollars and a woman in Singapore just clicked checkout and we sort of as a company sat around and were like ‘what do we do, how do we get this to her’? While logistically we had to figure it out, for me it was the most gratifying moment because I thought this woman trusts us with this purchase.

What is your earliest fashion memory?

My first vivid fashion memory was Kate Moss in Narciso Rodriguez at Cannes. I was awestruck.

Best piece of advice you ever received?

For entertaining, be an organized, calm, and gracious hostess. For everything else, know your audience. The biggest mistake you can make in life is to listen too much to other people. Be yourself.

What are Moda Operandi’s future plans for the Middle East?

We plan to continue embracing new talent from the region, as well as targeting our clients needs and wants.

See All the Looks from Margot Robbie’s First Campaign For Chanel

After recently being announced as the new ambassador for Chanel, Margot Robbie didn’t waste any time and quickly jumped in front of Karl Lagerfeld’s camera to model the brands first stand-alone ski collection.

The star is dressed in the key pieces from the Coco Neige Line, which will be hitting the stores later this summer.  Expect a combination of technical and urban pieces that explore the ski world with all the elegance of the Maison’s codes. Masculine/feminine inspirations, the work of tweed and leather, plus the quilting and the two-tone set the tone of the collection with its slender and sporty lines.

Robbie said that it was a great experience to shoot the campaign and how much she loved working with Lagerfeld:

“This shoot was one of the greatest experiences of my career. The energy and vibe on set was so wonderful and collaborative. One of the first things Karl Lagerfeld said to me was that we never need to take ourselves too seriously. He has such a creative mind and he knows exactly what he wants and the minute he captured it, we were moving onto the next shot. It was amazing. Karl Lagerfeld is a creative mastermind. I already knew he was a genius but to be able to spend time with him in person, I now know he is also just a wonderful human being.”

The collection is expected to land in the boutiques from July 2018.

Meet the Man Behind World Record Breaking Bvlgari Watches

Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani is not your typical Creative Designer for watches. Finding the connection between his background in automotive and fine watchmaking, he has propelled Bvlgari to the forefront of expert collectors and watch lovers making their timepieces just as iconic as the jewellery.

Stigliani started out at the Fiat Style Centre in Turin after completing his studies at the Industrial Design at the Institute for Industrial Arts of Rome. Few years later he was ready for a new challenge and sent his designs to the Bvlgari Design Center. A short time later Paolo Bvlgari, CEO and creative driver of the brand, invited him to Rome to join the watch design team. In 2007 he was named the Director of the Bvlgari Watches Design Center, with a mission to constantly reinterpret Bvlgari’s rich stylistic and cultural heritage in a contemporary language in tune with the brand’s DNA.

With several world records set by his creations, we talk to Stigliani about his creative process and how he plans to continue innovating to make Bvlgari one of the leaders in the watch industry.

SERPENTI TWIST YOUR TIME

Describe you design aesthetic?

It’s based on simple forms. Through all our watches you can find the same design approach. I love to play with material and with constraints so this is my design philosophy, and it’s very close to the Bvlgari design philosophy. Very simple objects, with simple shapes and rich detail.

Do you find men’s or women’s watches to be the most challenging?

The ladies, because the men’s watches are driven by technical features, it’s easier. Ladies is more in terms of emotions and you can’t manage this, it’s not just the technical features, we have to touch the right sensibility and it’s a matter of shapes, of proportions of how can you exploit the brand each time in different way. For example, the Serpenti has 76 or 78 ways to wear it and it’s something very interesting for us.

What is your typical design process?

Starts with an idea and then I start to make a lot of sketches by hand and after we start the design process in terms of prototype and product development.

SERPENTI TUBOGAS

How would you sum up Bvlgari watches today?

Our statement as a watchmaker is to merge Italian design rules and the Swiss watchmaking know-how.

What are the challenges of being innovative but staying true to the brand’s DNA?

Innovation is a state of mind. Innovation is not just to use the material in a different way, but change the way you wear the time pieces.

OCTO FINISSIMO TOURBILLON AUTOMATIC

How have peoples taste changed when it comes to watches?

When we launched the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon it was the thinnest Tourbillon in the world and everybody say ‘yes it’s a watch from Bvlgari, we will see.’ Year two a new world record, year three a new world record, year four a new world record. This is the watch and the collection that changed a little bit the perception of the brand for the watch lovers. Bvlgari is very well known, it’s one of the most prestigious jewel makers in the world, but in the world of watches when you see the male customers say ‘Bvlagri is jewel maker’. Today, we have a lot of watch lover and collectors that talk about this watch in a very enthusiastic way.

We notice you have a few exclusive timepieces for the Middle East. How important is this region to Bvlgari?

It’s one of the most important regions in the world. A lot of clients get watches here and not just Middle Eastern. Dubai is in the middle of world so it’s a very important location for us and important region in terms of clients.

How has your work evolved over the years?

Your taste changes during the years because your experience becomes different. At the beginning my idea was to make a tool watch, today it’s more discrete elegance. Design is a blend between engineering and the arts, and in Italy we don’t have just one word to translate design. Luxury for me is to have time to appreciate things you can achieve, otherwise if you just want to collect it’s a pleasure for possession but when you have a watch, you need time to appreciate it. So today it’s less is more, it’s far more difficult to remove than add.

OCTO FINISSIMO MINUTE REPEATER CARBON

What do you think a customer looks for in a luxury watch today?

Luxury means heritage and savoir flair, that’s why the story is so important. Bvlgari has a unique history and way to imagine things. In our DNA we have innovations and a different way of thinking.

Two of the watches received new world records this year, how do you evolve them further?

We have the new world for the thinnest minute repeater for ladies and we celebrate 100 years of high jewellery watches for ladies. We also have a new world record for men’s watches with three world records for just one watch – thinnest automatic watch in the world, thinnest automatic tourbillon and the thinnest tourbillon. It’s a great achievement and we will continue to develop the Finissimo even with minute repeater in carbon. One of the unique points of this brand is to play with material in an unconventional way. Everybody knows the tubogas, everybody knows the carbon, the titanium, the steel and gold, but just Bvlgari can play like no other in this segment.

How would you summarise your role?

My job is to covey the value of this brand in just 40mm. It’s hard, I come from automotive industry, but often we have the same clients. For me to make sketches about car, watches or furniture is the same but it’s important to understand the brand DNA. If you are able to do this, you are able to reinvent the brand each time. Prada Dubai Mall Boutique has Exclusive Gowns Perfect for Eid Celebration

To mark the occasion of the new flagship store opening in the Dubai Mall Fashion Avenue, Prada has created an exclusive collection of special evening dresses – perfect for celebrating Eid in our opinion.

Highlighting Prada’s exquisite detailing and innovation, each dress is rich and unique. Feminine and romantic silhouettes come in delicate pastel shades of blush pink, powder blue, lavender and pearl grey as well as timeless classic black.

Made in sophisticated couture fabrics and reinterpreted in a glamorous Fifties style. Luxurious embellishments include sequins created on special looms, hand-made embroideries with beads and cascade of crystals, taking inspiration from early 20th century jewellery. References from iconic past collections also influence the design of each garment. Among the selection we have our eyes on the ‘ballerina-style’ gowns with a fitted bodice and full, floating skirt.

The gowns are available now along with a selection of luxurious shoes and bags to complete your look.

Rimowa x Off-White Collaboration is Everything a Jetsetter Needs

Rimowa have been celebrating 120 years and part of this momentous occasion, the luxury travel brand has collaborated with Off-White.

In their first partnership together, the two brands have created a distinctively original transparent polycarbonate carry-on case. Its accented black handles, wheels and labelling on the locks and telescopic handle are characteristically and unmistakably Off-White in the way it adopts branding detailing into its visual language. Virgil Abloh, founder of the streetwear brand and now also Louis Vuitton’s menswear artistic director, said:

“This collaboration was an experimentation where we studied traveling and one’s emotional connection to their own ‘personal belongings’.”

While this case’s size is based on the Rimowa Essential model, due to its transparent design the Rimowa x Off-White case has no interior lining and instead includes the Flex-Divider system in black and customized bags for more efficient and modest packing – ideal for a staycation in the region or short-haul trip abroad.

The collection will be available from June 25 on rimowa.com in Europe and at select wholesale partners.

Harry Styles Takes Gucci to North London for Men’s Tailoring Campaign

Singer Harry Styles stars in latest tailoring campaign for Gucci, shot in North London with dogs and chickens.

The Italian house has managed to turn traditionally British fish and chip shop into a fashionable destination with a help of the former One Direction member. Styles is pictured in a variety of Gucci tailored outfits, alongside a pet chicken and dog. He orders his food and then shares it with the animals, in a narrative sequence that echoes many famous photographs and scenes from British films.

Key looks include two suits with waistcoats a splash-dark beige macro gingham sharkskin dressing gown, worn as a coat, a decorative dark wool mohair jacket with embroidered collar detail, and a white- oatmeal hued macro bird’s eye wool suit with MLB NY Yankees patches. The styling is contemporary, with the tailoring combined with formal shirts and ties, buttoned-up casual shirts, and moccasin sandals and sneakers. Everything a modern gentleman needs.

Photographed by Glen Luchford, the campaign capture an iconic eatery, but with plenty Italian flair.

Big News for Female Drivers in Saudi Arabia

History was made last night as 10 women in Saudi Arabia received their driving license.

The Kingdom first made a move to allow women to drive last year, but it’s not till June 24 this year when the ban will officially be lifted and female residents can take to the road not only in cars, but also trucks and motorcycles.

According to the National, the women were issued local driving licences in Riyadh on Monday in exchange for the foreign licences they already held. Next week, an additional 2,000 women will join the ranks of licensed drivers in Saudi Arabia. One of the lucky 10 was University assistant professor Tahani Aldosemani who said in a ministry statement:

“Driving for women is not just about driving a car; it enhances strength of character, self-confidence, and decision-making skills. It also instils a sense of responsibility for yourself, your vehicle, the road, and the people around you, not to mention the economic and social dimensions of driving.”

Allowing women behind the wheel is part of the Vision 2030 initiative led by the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman who is determined to make Saudi a more modern, tourist-friendly destination. The post-oil economy plan also aims to increase the number of women in the nation’s workforce among other initiatives.

Dubai is Officially One of the Most Creative Cities for Design

Dubai Design District.

There is another reason to love Dubai as it becomes the first city in the Middle East to be added to the UNESCO’s list of creative design hubs.

It joins a prestigious line up of 24 cities for several major development projects such as the Dubai Metro and tram, water canal and Jumeirah Corniche. According to The National, new Shindagha Bridge – a design based on the idea of infinity with its 42-meter high arches – also contributed to UNESCO’s decision. Dawood Al Hajiri, director general of Dubai Municipality, told The National:

“Design is beyond the product; rather it is the framework by which problems are solved. It puts people and their needs first to convert trash into energy, improve quality of life, increase sustainability and promote happiness. Dubai’s history with Unesco reflects its deep rooted concern and commitment to culture and heritage. It is also reflective of the country’s vision to position itself on the global map of the world.”

If that wasn’t enough to further warrant Dubai making it on the Creative City of Design list, the city is due to welcome a new university, Dubai Institute of Design, in September located in the Design District.

Did Rihanna Just Tease the Latest Fenty Beauty Drop?

Rihanna showed off a futuristic metallic look during the Ocean’s 8 world premiere and to compliment the Givenchy dress, her makeup was equally interstellar.

With the help of her makeup artist Priscilla Ono and Fenty Beauty products, the singer opted for a bold statement on the eyes and lips, and consequently might have also teased a new shimmering purple lipstick.

Priscilla started with Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer to prevent shine and pave the way for smooth makeup application. Then she applied Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation in 340 for a soft matte finish, and Match Stix Matte Skinstick in Peach to conceal for the ultimate flawless complexion.

She then turned to Match Stix Matte Skinstick in Mocha, a few shades deeper than Rihanna’s tone, to contour and define her face. And to achieve a subtle radiance, Priscilla used the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Moscow Mule/Ginger Binge as blush on Rihanna’s cheeks and up through the temples.

To finish the look, she turned to Invisimatte Blotting Powder and added to the t-zone as it absorbs excess shine and diffuse pores for an instantly filtered appearance.

Max Mara Resort 2019

Max Mara / Instagram.com

Ahead of the Max Mara’s Resort 2019 show, the brand announced that they will be staging their collection at Collezione Maramotti museum in Reggio Emilia, Italy, where the company was founded.

Launching almost 70 years ago, it was the first time the label held a show at the beating heart of the label. Creative director Ian Griffiths showcased the classic pieces from the brand including the 101801 camel coat that first appeared in 1981. Despite the nod to the sophisticated past, Griffiths added moderns twists to the icons such as the details showing the encounter between art and design and the balance between quasi-concrete color and soft fabrics.

Max Mara / Instagram.com

As models sailed past the art works by the likes of Vito Acconci and Erik Swenson, one thing that continues to impress is the quality of each garment – something that Max Mara is praised for time and time again. From flawless outwear and elegant tailoring to modern touches such as the art-deco logos and oversized bags, the house manages to stay timeless yet fashionable. Despite many associating it with chic coats and capes, Max Mara offers a strong evening wardrobe with floor length one-shoulder gowns and satin separates.

Max Mara / Instagram.com

The collection is exactly what you expect from the Italian house, but when it’s crafted to perfection and lasts from generation to generation, that’s not a bad thing.

Last night in New York, Alexander Wang showcased his new vision for the brand leaving a note on the attendees’ seats stating, ‘a new beginning, a new identity and a new day for my brand.’

His most recent offering titled Collection 1 isn’t a far departure from his signature looks with plenty of street references, edgy separates and hardware worn by Bell Hadid and Kaia Gerber. For urban rock and roll he offers tiny shorts in leather and denim, Guns N’ Roses style bandana’s, chunky logo belts, heavy duty boots and oversized jackets. Velvet tracksuits, sport jerseys, running socks, logo tees and sweatshirts complete the modern sportswear selection.

This was the world of Wang that fans of the brand know and love, but there was also a sense of freedom and his personal identity. Whether the show strategy will pay off is yet to be seen, but one thing for sure is that Wang is sticking to his roots now more than ever.

Men’s Paris Fashion Week: Dior Homme

Instagram.com/ Dior

Kim Jones debut collection for Dior Homme during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris highlighted the romantic and fun side of the brand.

British designer seems to have understood the heritage and the codes of the Maison from the get go, offering rich and couture-level pieces that are a perfect example of luxurious wearability. The collection is light, colourful and – for all purposes of the word – happy, which is a step away from the edgy designs that we saw from Kris Van Assche.

As the guests, including Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Robert Pattinson and Naomi Campbell, made themselves comfortable in the Garde Républicaine barracks, and took a few snaps of the 10-meter-tall flower-covered sculpture by street artist KWAS, the show opened with white and pastel blue easy-breezy separates styled on Prince Nikolai of Denmark, and continued into more of this ‘pretty’ masculinity.

Instagram.com/ Dior

If Jones was nervous about his debut, he didn’t show it. He pushed the savoir-faire associated with the House to thrillingly new and modern heights with a wide use of delicate embroidery and modern transparency. Echoing Virgil Abloh’s fresh approach to a historical Maison, the Off-White designer presented his first collection for Louis Vuitton last week and was sitting front row at Dior, the new vision is instantly appealing.

Where before the tailoring was strict, now it is loose with single button kimono styles in dusty pinks and neutrals. He used floral and bee motifs on bomber jackets and shirts, tiny shorts made an appearance which helped us get a closer look at the trainers with bungee clips over laces, as well as slim high-tops with Dior logo print.

With a weight of the Dior legacy on his shoulders, Jones appears to be breezing through this new challenge and this confidence makes for a winning collection.

Marni’s Carolina Castiglioni Has a New Fashion Plan

It’s hard not to love the fashion that comes out of Italy, and now we have another label to look forward to from the daughter of Marni founder Consuelo Castiglioni.

Carolina Castiglioni is starting her very own brand Plan C where she will be the creative director, WWD reports. It’s going to be a family affair with her father Gianni Castiglioni stepping into the CEO role and brother Giovanni appointed as the operations director. Joining the ranks of luxury fashion brands, the label will officially launch in in spring 2019 with two collections a year featuring ready-to-wear, knitwear and accessories – all made in Italy of course.

She used to work alongside her mother at Marni as a director of special projects, but whether she’ll be inspired by the brands bold prints and boxy shapes is still unknown. Her mother exited Marni two years ago.

Elie Saab Unveils First Resort Collection

Elie Saab has long been associated with eveningwear, but now the designer is venturing into daytime with pieces that you’d whip out of your wardrobe more than once.

Taking inspiration from the sixties and seventies French Riviera, there was sequins aplenty but he also worked in beaded florals, flowing lace and haute boho suede with fringing. The first resort collection also introduced denim into the world of Elie Saab which was deep navy and expertly cut, especially the jumpsuit.

Daywear doesn’t mean casual. Yes the silhouettes were slicker, and even the eveningwear felt subdued, but he still played with white broderie anglaise, chiffon, tulle and embroidery. However, it seems like he has realised that there are benefits in offering something light and breezy that can be worn time and time again, after all fans of the house would like an excuse to dress elegantly from day to night.

If you’re looking for longevity, we suggest investing in the poppy embroidered cape and style with the sheer gingham skirt and belt bag. The silk scarves add a retro feel to both miniskirts and tailoring, while the rainbow sequin–striped cocktail dresses brings just enough glamour to take you from a garden soiree to dinner.

On ladies day, her highness was seen wearing a sunny yellow tweed dress with fringing at the hemline and sleeves.
