It was announced today that award-winning actress Hend Sabry, known for roles such as Ola in the Egyptian television drama Ayza Atgawiz, will be taking up a new position to add to her already impressive career history.
Sabry will join the jury panel for the Luigi De Laurentiis Award for a Debut Film at the 76th Venice Film Festival, making her the first female Arab filmmaker to do so.
When the news broke, she took to Instagram to share her joy with her fans and followers, saying she felt proud at the appointment and letting on that her participation in the festival will coincide with the screening of her latest film, The Blue Elephant Pt 2.
The step forward from the film industry comes after Lebanese film director Nadine Labaki became the first-ever Arab person to take on the position of president of the Un Certain Regard jury at Cannes Filme Festival in 2019.
Congratulations are definitely in order for the talent.
