Christopher Bailey is to step down from Burberry early next year.

After 17 years as Chief Creative Officer and President at British fashion house, Bailey will exit end of March next year, meaning his last runway show will be in February.

Chief executive, Marco Gobbetti, congratulated Bailey on his contribution to the house over the years saying that he was ‘instrumental’ to the success since taking over in 2001 and added, “We have a clear vision for the next chapter to accelerate the growth and success of the Burberry brand and I am excited about the opportunity ahead for our teams, our partners and our shareholders.”

Bailey said it was a ‘great privilege’ to work at Burberry and remains positive for the future, “I do truly believe that Burberry’s best days are still ahead of her and that the company will go from strength to strength with the strategy we have developed.”

Who will be taking over is the next question, but it’s another shock exit from an iconic fashion house after the recent news of Phoebe Philo leaving Celine.
