10 Novelties From Watches and Wonders 2022 to Get Excited About

As the 2022 edition of Watches and Wonders is underway in Geneva, we reveal some of our favourite novelties that have been unveiled so far, to discover this year.

Hublot’s expertise in the art of sapphire reaches new levels with a purple edition of the Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic. This exclusive synthetic sapphire is a world first, offering a completely new colour in the field of fine watchmaking. The translucent tone is more than just a colour it revealed the highest skills and innovation in watchmaking. This new tone is a composite made of aluminium oxide and chrome, which has undergone a unique and complicated process to achieve the final result. The watch combines this innovative material with an in-house created self-winding tourbillion. The translucent bezel and case are complemented by six H-shaped titanium screws that are so specific to the iconic Big Bang design. This limited edition creation is available in just 50 pieces.

Lange & Söhne has expanded the Richard Lange watch family with a timepiece featuring a minute repeater, that combines tradition and innovation. With its white, three-part enamel dial, the 50-watch limited edition platinum timepiece is delightfully appealing, not only acoustically but also visually. The traditional sound format: when the slide integrated into the left-hand case flank is actuated, the chiming mechanism strikes the hours, the quarter hours, and the minutes. It follows a mechanical programme that with two differently tuned gongs can strike 720 different sequences – one for every minute in the twelve-hour cycle. Housed in a platinum case with a diameter of 39mm it features typical satin-finished flanks and prominently domed strap lugs. The white enamel dial has a solid-gold core and is crafted in-house.

Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas collection is further developed this year with the Overseas Tourbillon Skeleton. The first of its kind in the Overseas line this watch comes in 18-carat pink gold or Grade 5 titanium. It is the first all-titanium model featuring an integrated bracelet and houses the Manufacture Calibre 2160 SQ, which has been redesigned and skeletonised with a contemporary spirit and a new balance-spring, featuring a Breguet overcoil. Featuring a robust case, particular care has been devoted to the finishing of the case and bracelet. Both watches feature the Overseas collection-specific interchangeable strap system. They come with two straps in calfskin and rubber: black with two 18K 5N pink gold pin buckles for the gold model; and blue with an interchangeable titanium folding clasp for the titanium model.

Two complications come together for the first time with Patek Phillippe’s new 5326G-001 Annual Calendar Travel Time. Combining the Annual Calendar and the Travel Time system allows for a travel watch whose date display is synchronized with the respective local time. It simultaneously adjusts the date when the time zone is corrected. The new self-winding calibre 31-260 PS QA LU FUS 24H movement is endowed with eight patents and is houses in a totally new Calatrava case. Its flanks are guilloched with the hobnail pattern and its dial is framed in the vintage genre inspired by old photo cameras. The same unique design also graces the Ref. 5226G-001 Calatrava, a watch without an additional complication powered by the self-winding calibre 26-330 S C movement.

TAG Heuer has unveiled the ultimate luxury in diving watches with its new Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver. This professional timepiece was born for deep-sea diving and offers a robust and extreme design and performance. This is the brand’s first timepiece utilising calibre TH30-00 produced by Kenissi Manufacture SA which has been produced exclusively for TAG. This watch can be used at extreme depths of up to 1,000 metres and was inspired by the original Super Professional 1984 design.

IWC Schaffhausen TOP GUN Collection in Ceratanium

 

IWC Schaffhausen has launched two new TOP GUN models in its Pilot’s Watches collection. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN Ceratanium® is the first 41-millimetre chronograph in this collection in full Ceratanium®. This ground-breaking material is light and robust like titanium but at the same time is hard and scratch-resistant like ceramic. The watch comes in a full matte-black colour which was created by IWC in partnership with Pantone. The dark and slightly metallic hue is the result of a unique manufacturing process. The watch features the IWC-manufactured 69385 calibre chronograph movement which is visible through the tinted sapphire glass case back. The timepiece is fitted on a black rubber strap with textile inlay.

For 2022 Cartier has unveiled a new edition of its Pasha de Cartier watch. The Pasha de Cartier Grille features a strong graphic design with a square inside a circle and four Arabic numerals that it sits over and marks out. Featuring a hand-polished surface this unique grid gives character and personality to the design. The Manufacture has developed a new system supported by four tiny clasps with a very complex spring to scale. This allows it to be attached and detached with ease. The watch is easy to wear with or without it, for two different styles. The Pasha de Cartier Grille watch is available in an all-gold 41 mm version and in 30 and 35 mm jewellery versions.

Ulysse Nardin’s FREAK S offers a new high-tech design in watchmaking inspired by a space vessel with twin reactors. The creative design represents the expression of contemporary luxury masterfully manifested in an avant-garde watchmaking design. Building on the iconic Freak model which was first designed in 2001, this new creation offers watch collectors the chance to wear a piece of art on their wrist. The Freak S features the first Automatic Double Oscillator system with a differential automatic winder, made possible by the “Grinder” system which is twice as efficient as a traditional winding system. A new case inspired by the first Freak of 2001 has a construction enabling a combination of different materials including ceramic, titanium and gold. It is a limited edition of 75 pieces.

 

 

9. Bell & Ross WW1 Edición Limitada

Bell & Ross’ latest watch was designed for the sophisticated man who loves to smoke cigars. This limited edition piece is urban in its design and features a warm finish, created with a brown dial and gold case. Inspired by the world of cigars, it takes reference from the island of Cuba and is based on the watchmaker’s BR 05 creation. With a 42mm dial and integrated strap, it incorporates soft lines and rounded corners, as well as the iconic four-screw design around the edges of the watch. Available in a limited edition of 250 pieces.

 

10. Panerai Luminor GoldtechTM Calendario Perpetuo

Limited to just 33 pieces the new Panerai Luminor GoldtechTM Calendario Perpetuo invites its owners on a journey to Florence to discover the heritage of Panerai first-hand. Featuring the P.4100 automatic movement it offers the most accurate measurements and no limitations. he GMT function operates alongside the hour and minute hands, with the subdial at 9 o’clock featuring the day-night indicator and small seconds. A 22-karat micro-rotor winds and stores energy in two barrels. The chronometric precision and regulation of the movements is ensured by an assortment that beats at 4Htz. A smoked sapphire crystal dial allows complete visibility of the day and date discs, providing an uninterrupted view of the interior architecture of the watch. Through the sapphire caseback the month, year, leap year and power reserve indicators are visible. Composed of Panerai GoldtechTM, 750 per cent gold with platine, the 44mm Luminor case is a classic silhouette in the Panerai design lexicon. The black patina alligator strap possesses a matte finish that exudes refinement and understatement. Water-resistant up to 5 bar (about 50 meters deep), the Luminor GoldtechTM Calendario Perpetuo features a trapezoidal pin buckle in Panerai GoldtechTM. A screwdriver to remove the buckle accompanies the watch together with a black rubber second strap.
