The Dubai summer is hitting over 40oC, which means it’s time for another wardrobe reshuffle to accommodate stylish new purchases with heatproof capabilities.
This is the time of year where we keep silhouettes loose, colours bright, shoes mostly flat and sunnies big and bold. We let statement accessories do the talking, while the clothing remains simple, yet effective.
If you’re buying a dress make it white and cute like the Dolce & Gabbana one in our edit, but when you get tired of dresses, look to print skirts. For an added wow factor, choose a quirky details like a feather trim that we spotted on this Dries Van Noten number. Before you completely disregard jeans, consider a distressed blue pair from Vetements that sit high on the waist and look great with a logo T-shirt from Prada and high-heel pumps.
Humidity is a great excuse to hide your hair under something pretty like the Gucci head scarf, or pull the locks up in a high ponytail to reveal Lizzie Fortunato earrings that feature a cluster of iridescent stars and beads on a gold-tone metal thread that wraps round a tortoiseshell hoop.

Miuccia Prada enlisted the stars from runway and the movie screen to walk in her latest resort collection for Miu Miu, which was an eclectic mix of styles reflecting the ever-changing mood of a woman.
Alongside models like Naomi Campbell, Adriana Lima, Kaia Gerber and Adwoa Aboah, we also spotted Chloë Sevigny, Kate Bosworth, Uma Thurman and Game of Thrones’s Gwendoline Christie strut out in satin floor length dresses under chunky cardigans, feather trim skirts and buttoned up polo tops, tiny leather shorts and baby pink heels and floor length racing stripe coat unzipped to reveal maxi leopard print dress with a green satin top.
Set in the The Regina Hotel in Paris, the collection had a sense of freedom and fun. Not constrained by what you should wear for certain occasions, it instead encouraged to mix the sheer dresses with sporty bandeau tops or stripe athletic knits under duchess satin gowns.
The saddle bags went from mini to maxi, while luggage felt retro reminding us of the time when you had to carry them through check in rather than wheel them to the desk. The shoes were slipper-like and fluffy with a few quirky heeled options and sneakers thrown in the bundle – very Miu Miu.
While you turn to Prada for the grown-up edgy feel, you can rely on Miu Miu to inject some joy and playfulness into your wardrobe, and for Resort 2019 it really feels like Miuccia Prada let go. That mood translated into the energy on the runway and particularly embraced by Thurman who smiled at guests as she sashayed down the catwalk and did a series of dramatic twirls to showcase the full mastery of the pieces.

Last week we were crossing our fingers for the Middle East to gain another spot on the UNESCO Heritage lists, and over the weekend the organisation made it’s decision.
The committee have confirmed that Qalhat in Oman and the Al-Ahsa oasis in Saudi Arabia have both made the list this year. Qalhat was one of the most important Islamic commercial trade hubs in the Indian Ocean from the 11th to 16th centuries and acts ‘as a unique archaeological testimony to the trade links between the east coast of Arabia, east Africa, India, China and south-east Asia’, reads the UNESCO statement. Of Al-Ahsa oasis they said:
“With its 2.5 million date palms, it is the largest oasis in the world. Al-Ahsa is also a unique geocultural landscape and an exceptional example of human interaction with the environment.”
The site brings together gardens, canals, springs and wells along with archaeological sites and showcases the continued human settlement in the Gulf region from the Neolithic to the present.
Time to jot these two unique locations onto your travel list.

Hugo Boss is sponsoring an exhibition dedicated to Michael Jackson at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
The works under “Michael Jackson: On the Wall” comes from 48 artists, some that have never been shown before and will be on display from today. Each artist, including Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and David LaChapelle, will explore the influence that the King of Pop had, and still has, on contemporary artists. NPG’s director, Nicholas Cullinan, told the Guardian newspaper:
“All of the artists included in the exhibition, despite coming from different generations, perspectives and parts of the world, and employing a range of media, are fascinated by what Jackson represented and what he invented.”
One of the works worth seeing is the Kehinde Wiley, Equestrian Portrait of King Philip II (Michael Jackson), 2010 which was the last painting commissioned by star and started months before Jackson’s death in 2009 and completed posthumously.
Alongside the exhibition, which is part of the tribute to singer’s 60th birthday on August 29, Hugo Boss will release a capsule collection dedicate to the iconic star which will include slim-fit edition of the white suit and T-shirts with graphic prints. Hjödis Kettenbach, head of global communications at Hugo Boss, told WWD:
“When the National Portrait Gallery told us that this artwork was included, it was a no-brainer for us to work with them because, on the cover [of the Thriller album], Michael is wearing the iconic Hugo Boss white suit.”

According to The Telegraph, the Middleton’s lived in Amman, Jordan’s capital, for two and a half years when her father was stationed there as a British Airways manager. Prince William was captured in the same spot as the photograph, which we first saw when it was released ahead of their wedding in 2011.

While runways predict trends for next season, we look to the streets to see what we should be rocking this season, and sneakers are still proving to be the go-to shoes for fashionista’s.
The ‘ugly’ sports shoe from the likes of Balenciaga have been popular choice for their moulded sole that creates an overblown silhouette, but we also spotted retro sneakers in super clean white as well as lace up Converse high-top’s. Make these casual shoes stand out by choosing neon colours and unusual detailing like a pointed toe from Loewe.
When it comes to styling, tailoring is a perfect contrast but choose loose silhouettes and wide-leg trousers for undone elegance. Keep the skirts fitted or A-line to balance out bulky sneakers and for something modest yet statement making, flowing midi dresses and trainers never fail to impress.

This season classic pool slides are sneakily making their way from beach bag to wardrobe, so we have picked some of the best pairs to slip your feet into this summer.
If you thought this rubber footwear should remain poolside, it’s time to rethink you misconceptions as these sporty silhouettes are perfect for running errands round the city. Warmer weather calls for more laid back dressing so contrast your sharp suit with a pair of Prada slides, or add a masculine touch to your frilly sun dresses.
For those looking to jump on the logo trend, look to Gucci, Fendi and Balmain. No. 21’s black velvet ‘Fusbett’ slides have been shaped as rigid knots for a sculptural effect, while The Row’s ‘Teddy Bear’ slides become the comfortable slippers to wear outside the house. Slick and simple always looks good, especially at Saint Laurent, but if you’d like a play on texture then Valentino and Isabel Marant have the perfect pair for you.

At the end of his last ready-to-wear show, designer Jacquemus revealed that his will start designing for men, and now we have finally seen the results during the runway on a beach in Marseille.
Simon Porte Jacquemus has become the fashion world’s darling after a series of successful collections all paying tribute to his late mother. Now his has a new love in his life which in part inspired him to branch out into menswear, but unlike the dramatic shapes and sculptured shoes that we regularly see him design for women, he has taken a more casual approach by offering something he himself would wear. In the show notes he wrote:
‘I grew up here, right behind those big limestone rocks. I grew up here, between the olive trees and the red tomato fields. I grew up here, with those men in blue tracksuits, matching blue bags and hats, all light blue. I grew up here, with those Saturday night white shirts clean and pressed, that give you a nice tan in summer.…I grew up here, barefoot, bare-chest[ed], strong perfume. I grew up here, in the Mediterranean.’
If you’ve ever struggled to put your holiday wardrobe together then you’re in luck because Jacquemus delivers the perfect beachside capsule with printed shirts, worn unbuttoned, canvas shorts, rolled up, and two-button jacket paired with a Bermuda shorts. There was also a wide selection of summer knits, sporty zip up jackets and bucket hats, which we also spotted at Fendi.
This is the kind of no-fuss dressing any guy would appreciate, especially if you would rather enjoy the golden sunsets of the Mediterranean over figuring out what to wear.

Jacquemus Unveils Men’s Line During FW18 Show
Olivier Rousteing paid tribute to his childhood icon Michael Jackson during the Balmain SS19 collection in Paris.
The designer once again showcase his bold take on French iconic styles, while using Balmain’s singular mastery of Parisian couture embellishment techniques and precision tailoring. In a statement on social media, Rousteing said:
“For me Michael Jackson’s music has always offered an uplifting celebratory message of hope and the possibility of needed changes. During the same period that much of the fashion world focused on a vision of exclusivity for those who didn’t look like me, Jackson put forth a powerful and compelling alternative message of inclusion, based on breaking rules and pushing boundaries, as well as a healthy dose of anger at injustices.”
You easily spot references to Michael Jackson’s iconic wardrobe, especially all the white socks and black loafers, but with a very French spirit. Mixing both men’s and women’s pieces, note the over-knee disco ball boots styled with a sequin hooded jumper and men’s patent leather skin tight trousers worn with a matching biker jacket.
Among the street and the edgy were some elegant moments translated into Balmain’s classic double breasted jacket in an elongated style, and a more military shape for the boys in bright white hue with a black trim. The references to the musical star and 80’s America were blended with preppy stripes and unwashed indigo-jeans.
Rousteing doesn’t want to limit his collection to just one type of man, he wants to have a diverse offering. Does he succeed? In the latest range that presents everything from timeless jackets to wild bling, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there will be a handful of fans who want to add a touch of dazzle to their wardrobe.

Saudi Arabia made history last night by finally allowing women to drive.
Female drivers in the Kingdom legally took to the road marking this proud moment in history. As the clock struck midnight, women joined the celebrations by getting behind the wheel with Saudi television presenter Sabika al-Dosari telling the AFP news agency that “It is a historic moment for every Saudi woman.”
Earlier this month, 20 women became the first female licence-holders after swapping their foreign licences for Saudi ones, with the Saudi authorities expecting about 2,000 women to receive licences now that the ban has been lifted. This change is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s initiative to modernise the Kingdom and push his 2030 vision to make Saudi society more open.
Many women took to social media with one tweeting “I’m so proud to be a Saudi womannn!… I can’t wait see what the future holds.” Pictures of Saudi police officers handing out roses to female drivers have also been circulating round social medial channels.
To encourage more women to take to the wheel, special driving schools have been set up while there are also a number of events are being held in Riyadh to encourage new drivers.
This is a symbolic moment to savour not only for women in Saudi Arabia, but for women around the world, and here at A&E we celebrate this independence with you, #saudiwomencandrive.
