Time to make a shift from minimalist jewellery into something bright and beautiful with Sarah Hendler’s colourful collections inspired by vintage heirlooms with touches of modern sensibility.
Since 2016, Hendler has been creating jewellery for women who appreciate a wearable statement. Her most popular rings named after her gandmothers Shirley and Ethel, and for the latest collection she worked with stones like sapphire and ruby that are feminine and a bit edgy at the same time. For Ramadan we are loving her ‘Ethel’ sphere rings that feature vibrant star motifs.
Based in Los Angeles and born on the Gold Coast of Long Island, Hendler always recognized the significance of jewellery in a woman’s life. Her family’s thoughtfully curated collections reflect an appreciation for gemstones, craftsmanship, and uniqueness that has shaped her point of view. The jewellery collection is handcrafted in 18-karat gold in LA and incorporates inspirational silhouettes from estate pieces married with contemporary elements like a signature spear; bold, handpicked colored gemstones; and unexpected enamel detailing in a contrasting palette. Hendler explains:
“The ‘spear’ collection is called Shirley because she was a woman always a little ahead of her time in terms of fashion, and I think the silhouette really represents a retro and vintage feel, but with a modern edginess. The ‘starburst ball’ collection is named for Ethel — because she loved a big cocktail ring! My version has elements of Victorian jewellery but with a new, bold scale and surprising enamel touches.”
Whether dressing for a special occasion or simply wanting to add a pop of colour to your everyday outfit, you can be sure that with Sarah Hendler’s jewellery you will make a statement in an elegant fashion. Shop it now on modaoperandi.com.

Princess Beatrice swapped the gloomy UK weather for some sunshine in the desert as she was snapped holidaying in Jordan with Karlie Kloss, Ellie Goulding, and designer Misha Nonoo.
The royal spent some time at the Wadi Rum desert in southern Jordan and the coastal city of Aqaba, which is located close to the historic city of Petra. Nonoo, who is known for setting up Meghan Markle on a blind date with Prince Harry, shared a group picture of everyone on the trip.
Model Kloss posted pictures of herself with singer Goulding out in the desert before adding another snap to her feed outside of Petra. Goulding also captured the moment with the whole group and her caption read:
‘Jordan was truly breathtaking. If you are looking for the trip of a lifetime, I can’t recommend it enough! A beautiful, captivating country.’
Princess Beatrice’s trip clashed with the arrival of Prince Louis, but we are sure she’ll visit him as soon as she’s back from her desert adventures.

Famous for its perfect fusion of technical excellence and timeless, distinctive design, in 2018 EBEL brings an icon of historic design firmly into the 21st century with the relaunch of its groundbreaking EBEL Sport Classic.
The 1977 launch of the Sport Classic line, with its unmistakable Wave bracelet and fully integrated case, marked the beginning of the sport chic category. The embodiment of EBEL’s ‘beauty marries function’ philosophy, this unique watch defined the brand’s identity and generated lasting fascination with two-toned steel and gold watches.
True to this legacy, and relegating oversized ‘boyfriend’ watches firmly to fashion history, the deliberately downscaled 24mm brushed stainless steel and 18K gold case with its diamond-studded bezel frames a shimmering white mother-of-pearl dial graced with diamond hour-markers.
We talk to EBEL President, Flavio Pellegrini, about how the watch industry is evolving digitally, their presence in the Middle East and plans for the future.
Tell us the story behind Ebel.
The story of EBEL is a romantic story as the brand was founded by husband and wife (Eugene Blum Et Alice Levy). The name is an acronym of the initials of the couple. Eugene was the watchmaker and Alice was in charge of aesthetics and design. This brand was founded in La Chaux-de Fonds, one of the most emblematic cities for the Swiss watch industry
What is the brand DNA?
Brand DNA is linked to the founding philosophy beauty marries function which means when form follow functions. This is one point of difference in the industry and our brand personality is elegant, pure, sensual, luxurious and timeless.
How do you balance functionality and beauty?
It is not an easy exercise indeed! We always have to make sure the design elements in our watches are needed and have a reason to be for the functionality and comfort of the watch.
What are the key features of the Sport Classic line and how has it evolved since 1977 launch?
The EBEL Sport Classic is the best example of perfect harmony between aesthetics and function. The one-piece, flawlessly sculptured hexagonal case, the distinct five visible screws, the perfectly integrated wave-shaped bracelet were conceived and shaped to form a seamlessly integrated whole. This is the signature of this iconic design. The smooth, flexible and tapered bracelet make the bracelet comfortably unique and appealing on the wrist. Whether it’s with the jewelry clasp or EBEL folding clasp, the bracelet’s fine-brushed finishing gives that sporty and at the same time elegant look. EBEL Sport Classic established the sport-chic category in the 70s and its legacy lives on today with the redesigned model we launch a few months ago. The evolution on the latest release have been minimal as we kept the DNA of the watch but used current technology to make it more modern in its look.
How do you feel social media and digital is shaping the industry?
It is the big next challenge for our industry. How do we use social media and digital to tell our story, connect with the new generation and ultimately make our brand desirable. We are very excited about it, and see it more as an opportunity rather than a challenge. In fact, we are creating the Digital Center of Excellence which will help us master this new way to connect with consumers.
To what extent do you think the retail experience is still important?
It is still very important, and we believe in multi-channeling especially in our luxury segment where our rich story can only be entirely told using both channels – offline and online.
What are your plans for the Middle East?
The Middle East has always been an important market for our brand and we continue to consider it as a priority market. I see two main reasons. The first is linked to our luxurious, elegant and timeless products, matching perfectly the tastes of ME customers. Secondly, in EBEL we have a family spirit and culture, and we transmit the same values in the way we collaborate with our partners, we are very lucky to have strong and long-term partners who are part of the EBEL “family” and represent the brand with pride.
What do you think makes a brand successful?
It is a magic mix, composed of different elements, and I believe the most important ones are the uniqueness of the brand story & promise, and a desirable product offer matching the brand story.
How do you see the future of watchmaking change?
I think watchmaking is one of the most traditional industries which evolves very slowly, and I think the digitalization, as mentioned, is the next change and will have a major impact on the industry.
What is a life lesson that you can share with us?
Carpe diem – Seize the day (Roman poet Horace 23BC) as the source of most frustrations and anxiety are the result of living in the future, or in the past. Make the most of the present, the decision lies with you!
What keeps you motivated and inspired?
My family! My wife and my two daughters are a constant source of inspiration. We spend quality time together, especially after my return from long business trips. I like spending time with my daughters and cooking some Italian specialties when I have the possibility.
What are your goals for the future?
Be happy, achieve great results professionally and influence others.

Cleansing is one of the key steps in your daily beauty routine and Chanel have renewed their collection for all skin types and needs.
The cleansing collection ensures impeccable makeup removal (for face, eyes and lips) which is effective on long-wearing and waterproof formulas, pollution particles and even sunscreen.
The cleansers contain a blend of two marine active ingredients: depolluting blue micro-algae and fortifying marine salicornia extract. Infused with natural anti-pollution power, blue micro-algae help protect cells while marine salicornia, with its ability to self-regulate water, provides dual moisturising and skin-strengthening actions.
For radiance, choose the oil-based L’Huile that transforms into a milky texture upon contact with water. Le Lait Douceur D’huile cleanser is ideal for sensitive skin, while Le Lait Anti-Pollution cleansing milk leaves skin soft, satiny and makeup-free. La Mousse ensures extremely gentle clean with the rich cream texture transforming into a generous foam that deeply cleanses and purifies the skin. Every cleanse requires a toner afterwards to guarantee a polished finish and Le Tonique soothes the skin and leaves it feeling super fresh.
Morning and evening, you’ll be glowing in no time.

You Have To See Inside Chanel’s Seasonal Boutique In Saint-Tropez
It’s never too soon to start planning your wish list for next season and we have picked some of our favourite looks from Elisabetta Franchi FW18 collection to add to your wish lists.
Franchi re-imagined the energy of seventies in her latest line which she infused with charisma and charm to make you feel powerful yet feminine at the same time.
An intense and varied colour palette is the center point of the collection: an explosion of rich hues creates a strong combination on garments and accessories. The full consistency of the gianduja chocolate shade dominates the accessories with its Seventies style, while the soft whiteness of the candy floss hue is mixed with more intense tones such as must, petroleum and peacock, pouring on the lengths of dresses and trousers.
The playful shades are interchanged with vivid raspberry shades, the bows on collars get sculptural volumes, tweed is combined with naplak in a modern mix-and-match and the colourful resin accessories become irreverent protagonists that decorate bags, shoes and bijoux.
Eye-catching geometrical twists on the multi-color prints become lozenges and diagonal lines give an optical sense of movement to flowing fabrics. The oversize coats can be styled with sparkling shirts, while the accessories further channel the energy of the new Seventies woman.
See our top picks from Elisabetta Franchi FW18 collection up close above.

The recently appointed YSL global beauty director Tom Pecheux takes us through the Fall beauty look and shares the key makeup products to add to your bathroom shelf.
Inspired by Anthony Vaccarello first show and the colours from a Van Gogh painting, Pecheux created a palette that looks at the contrast between a pale, white iris and a deeper violet purple shade. Every creative has a muse, and for this line Pecheux though of Kate Moss and Betty Catroux who capture femininity and modernity. He added:
“I wanted to express an attitude for a woman who is powerful, free, happy in her own skin, and happy with her friendships.”
Read on to see how you can create the YSL look using the latest collection.
What’s a quick look you can create with COUTURE PALETTE COLLECTOR?
I don’t want to kill the fantasy of what a palette can be – there are so many things you can do with this one! But probably the easiest thing to do is take the darker colour and smudge it on its own, to make a smoky eye. Or just use the darker colour close to the lashes and it will look like a dark, smoky eyeliner. You can put colours next to each other, you can put colours on top, or under the eye to create a duo eye colour. There are so many different ways.
Purple has been a signature shade since the beginning of YSL in 1962. For those who are afraid of colour, how do you suggest they wear it?
People who are afraid of purple will be afraid of any colour! But purple is actually an easy colour to wear, because there are so many different shades and it’s a colour which works on everyone.
Whenever you try something new you can go one of two ways: either you are very radical and you go for it, in which case the results might be striking, amazing, or difficult for you to enjoy, but at least you’ve taken a risk, and it’s great to take a risk sometimes. Or if you’re a bit more cautious, you can add a little bit of violet on top of the eyeshadow you might normally use. So if you normally wear a smoky black eye, try mixing some purple with the black.
A lot of the tips are about sculpting and illuminating the eye, why is this important?
Illuminating is important because without light, there is no life! Bringing light to the face is a moment of joy. People present diamonds on a black velvet cushion because it makes them look more sparkly. And that is why sometimes bringing dark to the eye can make your eyes stand out more.
Sculpting the eye is far more simple than many of those video tutorials might have us believe! This palette makes sculpting the eye very easy. When you have very deep eyes, or a very high or flat eyelid, it’s useful to be able to bring a structure to the eye by using colour.
What’s the best way to use the COUTURE CHALKS?
I like to use them directly from the bullet, and either blend with a finger or with a brush. You can layer them on top of one another, or put the lighter shade on top of the others to soften and get a more romantic feel.
What’s a quick look with the COUTURE CHALKS?
To create a shimmering smoky eye, put a few dots of the shade Le Nude over the eyelid and blend it with your finger. On top of this, add a couple of dots of the shade Le Noir, then blend it over your eye with your finger. And your makeup is done in a couple of minutes!
With the COUTURE BLUSH and COUTURE HIGHLIGHTER, what is the best way to apply?
Blush, for the most part, is something that you don’t want to see. It’s designed to give women a very healthy, fresh, natural, youthful glow. If someone says, “Oh I like your blush,” then it usually means you’re using too much. That said, there are times when creating a character demands a bit more blush, in which case, it becomes your statement.
With dry blush, use it on cheeks which are already slightly powdered. With wet blush, use it on top of your foundation but before you powder. The key rule is to treat it the same way you eat at the family table – just remember you can always go back for more. So start small, it’s much easier to add more than it is to remove it. And if you do apply too much, finger blending or a water-based makeup remover will remove it.

Los Angeles-based designer Kathleen Whitaker creates simple, sleek and modern jewellery that has already appealed to big names like former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Whitaker’s designs strike a balance between delicate and bold, traditional and experimental. Founded in 2003, the brand has become synonymous with the simple, geometric 14-karat designs of the Classic Collection, most notably the original “staple” and “sequin” studs. In March of 2016 Whitaker launched the Stone Collection, one-of-a-kind and limited-edition designs which combine semi-precious gemstones with the simple geometric forms. This is the line that was championed by Michelle Obama and then quickly picked up by Barneys New York.
Since then her creations have been spotted on Rosetta Getty, Jessica Alba and Kendall Jenner and although it’s only available in the US, the buzz around the label makes us wonder whether they will soon be expanding to a global audience.

Sleep your way to a perfectly smooth and plump pout with our top picks of overnight lip treatments.
Healthy lips not only give you confidence to smile all day long, but they make lipstick application flawless allowing you to showcase many sides of your personality with one sweep of rouge or nude. Skin on the lips is particularly sensitive with damage such as dryness or cracking becoming more visible, but by introducing a nightly routine can make a big difference.
Give your lips a massage for five minutes every night with an oil such as Zelens that contains Argan Oil, Jojoba and Linseed. This boosts blood circulation encouraging restoration and deeper moisturisation. Your lips are at their driest during the night so make sure to apply plenty of balm like the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Intensive Repair that has a moisturising hypoallergenic formula of essential fatty acids and Shea Butter with soothing Honey Extract and healing Arnica Oil.
Include a scrub in your night routine twice a week to remove dry skin and create a perfect base for using any other treatments. Lipsticks are actually a great barrier against sun and sand damage so swoosh on the shade of choice before leaving the house.

Sarah Jessica Parker has your special day outfit covered head to toe as she collaborates with Gilt on a bridal line and launches her first SJP wedding shoe collection.
Parker is designing 10 styles ideal for a modern non-traditional bride that will see her look her best from the bridal shower through to the wedding reception. Expect a variety of classic silhouettes as well as impressive gowns, modern bodysuits, full skirts and a jumpsuit. The colour palette consists of white as well as soft tones of pink, gray and blue.
As part of the launch, Gilt will offer 15 exclusive styles from the SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker footwear line. Parker told WWD that she never planned to design bridalwear, but with many clients seeking out her shoe creations for their special day, it was the right time to envision two collections that work harmoniously together. She added:
“The intent is they should be usable outside of that special occasion. Whether you’re the person walking down the aisle, or you’re attending, these are all pieces that should be relevant in your closet. There are some pieces that feel more decadent and more specifically bridal. There’s no law saying they’re not appropriate for many other important occasions as well.”
Known for her impeccable style and unique approach to fashion, Gilt collaboration elevates minimalist shapes with sweet bows, detailed embroidery, feathers and hand stitched beading. Tom Ott, chief merchant of Gilt told WWD:
“Sarah Jessica brings her impeccable taste and fashion sensibility to life in this collection. We think our customers will be delighted with the offering which is stylish and well-priced in the bridal category.”
We hear some very happy brides-to-be eagerly awaiting the release date.

The Legacy Of Hubert de Givenchy
Online luxury e-tailor Net-A-Porter have put together a curated edit of bridal wear, and it’s not what you’d expect.
Instead of traditional gowns or lace dresses, the online store challenges you to think outside the box of and consider making a strong fashion statement on your big day. Don’t worry, all the elements of romance and codes of bridal are still present, but they have just been re-imagined in tailoring from brands like The Row, Alexander McQueen and Temperley London.
Contemporary brides will love the smart suiting on offer and we suggest looking for feminine details like ruffles spotted on the blazer by Ellery, or Gabriela Hearst’s tuxedo dress that is a perfect blend of traditional and modern. Oscar De La Renta’s floor sweeping gown offers classic elegance from the front, but the open back and pleated train leave lasting impression as you glide down the aisle.
New and exclusive this season, Danielle Frankel is designed for the bride who doesn’t adhere to convention, while London-based label Galvan is know for minimalist aesthetic and have launched their very first bridal collection with Net-A-Poter.

Messika’s Fashionable Take On Bridal Jewellery
The footwear designer Nicholas Kirkwood is moving his presentation from Paris to London Fashion Week.
In September, show goers will experience an immersive and experiential display of his latest collection. The designer told Business of Fashion that the relocation made sense as London is where he and the studio are based, and where he seeks much of his inspiration. He added:
“I’m not going to do it in a traditional runway format, there will be other elements that make it far more of an experience. It’s something I will continue to do.”
His bold and quirky shoe designs have won him a global fandom, but he is also keen to branch out into bags, and following his recent collaboration with Bvlgari we think he can deliver something special.
“Bags will be one of the categories. Then I would also love to tackle jewellery and sunglasses, and potentially also furniture. It’s about supplying my aesthetic to a product,” says Kirkwood. “To have the show [in London] is a first step forward. I want to remind people of the type of shoes that I do, and this is the right opportunity to show that.”
