Holiday Packing? Travel Size Beauty Buys To Try This Summer

If you’re anything like us, half your holiday luggage consists of maintaining your beauty routine, meaning hand luggage only flight send you into a state of turmoil…

Because not only are we contending with keeping up our day-to-day beauty rituals, but factoring in the extra stress our hair, body and skin will endure once we reach our summer holiday destination. Beach waves and tans might be a vision, but the blazing sun and salty sea water can dehydrate and irritate sensitive skins.

Not to mention the stress our skin will go through on the flight alone… As your aircraft goes up, the humidity goes down, and that means dry and flakey skin is more than likely

The solution to all this? Packing your hand luggage with the best of beauty miniatures that are airport-security and beach bag friendly.

Luckily there are more of our favourite brands and products available in smaller sizes than ever before – and places like Sephora and Net-A-Porter (where you can find the products listed above) even have their own dedicated travel beauty tabs.

So check out some of our favourite tiny beauty provides above, and remember to pick up your travel essentials before your next trip.

A Karl Lagerfeld Makeup Collection Is on the Way

The late fashion designer had a lot to say about beauty as well as fashion, and now some of Karl Lagerfeld’s ideas about cosmetics are about to come to light in a new collection.

Months after the German fashion designer’s death in February of 2019, the legacy of Karl Lagerfeld is still being celebrated and immortalised.

As well as a lavish exhibition about his life and work in Paris this June (put on by Chanel, Fendi and his eponymous label Karl Lagerfeld) the last creations from the icon are still being rolled out.

The exhibition will explore the life and work of Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld teamed up with L’Oreal

And according to WWD, a makeup collection by Lagerfeld is next. In the run-up to his passing, he had teamed up with beauty giant L’Oréal Paris to work on a collection that actualised his style of Parisian chic with a rocky edge.

Speaking to the site, Head of Image and Communication at Maison Karl Lagerfeld Caroline Lebar said: “This line of makeup truly reflects the Karl Lagerfeld brand universe and what Karl loved in makeup. Karl liked it when a collaboration resonated with a brand and would make a real impact on many people.”

In time for fashion week, the collection will drop in September of 2019. As of yet, products, in particular, have not been revealed.

The Best of Paris Men’s Fashion Week SS20, From Kenzo to Dior Homme, Valentino and More

As the menswear shows unfold in Paris for Spring 2020, we bring you the highlights you need to see from the likes of Dior Homme, Valentino, Hermès and more.

Kenzo

For their last collection as Co-Creative Directors for the French fashion house, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon once again took inspiration from the waters – in particular, the female free divers or the so-called ‘Last Mermaids’ of Japan. Aquas, orchids and harbour grey were utilised over sea-life prints and scuba sandals.

Celine

Taking to the Dôme de Paris for the third time since his stint at Celine began, Hedi Slimane presented a menswear collection for Spring 2020 with undeniable Seventies flair and brought new silhouettes to his male fashion line. Expect butterfly collars, sequin disco-esque jackets, wide leg trousers and boxy brown leather jackets.

Dior Homme

As Creative Director Kim Jones teamed up with artist Daniel Arsham to create his spring look for the year ahead, they reworked the classic Dior suit with an architectural edge. Referencing the designer’s work, the Dior Homme set (created by Arsham) mimicked an archaeological site featuring crumbling sculptures against a pink sand setting – and the ‘Future Relics’ collection followed.

Balmain

When Creative Director Olivier Rousteing took to Paris to present his show, he decided to celebrate the summer solstice by creating, essentially, a party for attendees. As Darren Criss provided his rendition of Prince’s Kiss, models strutted the runway donning luxe silks, metallic armour, head to toe white, and pastel pink and purple tees. The feel was fun and futuristic.

Valentino

Valentino’s Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli created a menswear collection for Spring 2020 that mixed picturesque prints and earthy tones with an other-worldly vibrancy, taking inspiration from English artist Roger Dean. Models embodied Dean’s opposing themes of both the natural and the fantastical, mixing earthy tones of tawny brown and olive green with vibrant tones of orchid purple over sun bright orange.

Hermès

For SS20, Hermès’s longstanding Men’s Artistic Director expanded silhouettes for a nonchalant take on formalwear – shirts were oversized and untucked, cardigans were lazily buttoned and layers were thrown together to expand this shape further. Elsewhere, trouser legs expanded out too, refusing to taper and satisfy out ‘balancing out’ urges. Shades of candyfloss pink and mint green brought colour to basics, and neck scarfs were the defining accessory.

Get Ready To Swoon Over Messika’s Latest Jewellery Collection

Messika is a jewellery brand that isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Over the last few years, we have heard the moniker – taken from French creator’s surname, Valérie Messika – more and more, from being a favourite of Gigi Hadid to taking Cannes Film Festival by storm being worn by the likes of Aja Naomi King, Martha Hunt and Pixie Lott.

Which is why we’re always eager to see what the jewellery Maison comes up with next. And the latest drop from Messika is an extension of the Move collection. For the 2019 collection, the designer has recreated the famous diamond in motion in an ‘easy to wear’ version, the Move Uno.

Each item in the new drop, from the stud earring to delicate bracelets and long chain necklaces, have been designed to be petite meaning they can be worn alone or layered – each delivering a tiny portion of day to day luxury. The Move Uno collection has been created using a golden motif, each combining with a unique moving diamond. Tones include gold, silver and rose gold.

Previously, the woman behind the empire told us: “Through the years, Messika gained special in-house techniques: Messika made its name around one collection and technique – the Diamond in motion, with Move Collection. Through the innovative Silk technique, I came close to recreating the suppleness of fabric in the jewels, taming gold so that it hugs the curves of the body like a precious garment worn next to the skin.”

Nicolas Jebran, Acne Studio and Rami Al Ali: Paris Couture Week Highlights

Designers flocked to the French capital on June 30th to kickstart the reveal of their latest collections, and here are some of the best looks and moments from day one.

Nicolas Jebran

The Lebanese fashion designer presented his collection titled My Golden Odyssey at Les Invalides in Paris on June 30th.  Nicolas Jebran, who established his fashion house in Abu Dhabi in 2000, curated a collection that was daring in shapes and cut-outs and deep in ink navy and orchid purple shades. Embelshiement reigns – ranging from accentuating sheer fabrics to creating mosaic effects – and a waist-clinching wrap cut was prominent in the collection.

Acne Studios

As Acne Studios set up at La Maison de la Radio (the HQ of Radio France ) the Swedish fashion house kept the scene very minimal – in true Swedish style – and let the collection for SS19 do the talking. Inspired by “the independence of mind and spirit from living within nature,” the womenswear was earthy, rugged and layered. On the collection, Acne Studios’s Creative Director Jonny Johansson said: “The choice to live in nature can be a radical act. It is poetic but it is also very real, about seeking alternatives. I am always attracted to these people, and the way their life translates into the way they dress. This idea of escape is more important today than ever.”

Rami Al Ali

Rami Al Ali AW19

Rami Al Ali AW19

Dubai-based designer Rami Al Ali took to Paris yesterday to present his Couture collection for Autumn/Winter 2019 that took inspiration from the elegance and style of Cafe Society fashion. Ali worked with strapless designs, voluptuous ballgowns and cascading full-length cuts that fells way from the models, but worked modern twists onto these timeless silhouettes – think delicate transparencies and radiant overlays.

Dolce & Gabbana Makes A Statement With New Clothing Collection

D&G has announced a change to the sizing of its clothing line, becoming more inclusive of different body shapes.

Unless you share the same frame as a size zero runway model,  fitting into the latest gowns from your favourite designers can sometimes be a struggle.

But as more and more companies open their eyes to the need to be inclusive of all women, slowly changes are being made to make the fashion industry a more inclusive place.

The latest fashion house to follow suit is Dolce & Gabanna. With its latest collection, the Italian fashion designer has extended its size range.

A statement read: “Dolce&Gabbana has been in love with feminine sensuality in all its forms from the beginning.

“Beauty is not a matter of clothing size, it is a state of mind, an attitude – that certain something that makes each woman enchanting and unique. By extending the Collection’s clothing size range, Dolce&Gabbana pays tribute to women, the female form and beauty at its finest.”

But their not the first brand to make the move; the likes of Tory Burch, Christian Siriano and local designer Dima Ayad already create a curvier selection. Meanwhile, 11 Honoré, the luxury e-commerce platform that launched in November 2018, houses a range of plus size garments created by high-end fashion brands – and you may be surprised by the number of designers on the list.

Celine Brings Seventies Flair to Paris Men’s Fashion Week for SS20, From High Rise Denim to Butterfly Collars

Having styled David Bowie during his world tours in another life, Celine‘s Artistic, Creative and Image Director is clearly drawn to a certain style. And having reinvented the image (and name) of Saint Laurent in his previous post to align with the youthful music scene, the two – music and fashion – are clearly intertwined and indivisible to the designer.

And for Hedi Slimane‘s menswear collection for SS20, he collaborated with South African musician David Kramer whose career kicked off in the 1970s – as did Slimane’s fashion show.

From butterfly collared shirts in deep red hues to sequin disco-esque jackets, the aesthetic was undeniable. Slimane also outlawed drainpipe cut trousers, making sure the ankles took a breath of fresh air with his latest collection. Denim was doubled up and worn high waisted – accessorised with thin braided belts. Boxy brown leather jackets, floral knit cardigans and long shaggy looks reinforced the callback.

Paying homage to Kramer, slogans from some of his songs were sprawled across tees. To see more of the looks we loved, see above.

Andrea Incontri to Cease Position as Creative Director at Tod’s

After five years in the role, Tod’s Creative Director Andrea Incontri has announced his departure from the label.

In a statement, Andrea Incontri confirmed the news that he will no longer serve as Creative Director for the Italian shoemakers and fashion house.

Incontri, who will hold his position in the company until the end of June 2019, stated: “It’s been an honour for me to be a part of this great family. Tod’s has been a school and an important experience in my developments. I thank Diego and Andrea Della Valle for the support and enthusiasm they’ve always given me.”

While over on Instagram, he elaborated: “In 2013 I started my collaboration on the Tod’s menswear collections. In June 2014 I became a creative director for men. They have been years of teaching, commitment, discipline. I built an uphill route thanks to all the wonderful people I worked with. I owe a lot to them because it was thanks to them that I succeeded: to respect the values of a great Italian brand. Thanks to Diego and Andrea for the chance I was given!”

After creating his eponymous label in 2009, Incontri joined the now century-old label in 2013. One year later he took up the position of Creative Director.

Dior Homme at Paris Fashion Week SS20: Explore Kim Jones Archaeological Collection with Artist Daniel Arsham

Since joining the Maison in March 2018, British fashion designer Kim Jones has been working to make his own mark on the legacy of Dior. And for Spring/Summer 2020, the Creative Director of the menswear department of the French fashion house reworked the iconic Dior suit, aiming to make it more accessible for the modern Millenial man.

On both the collection and the design, Jones called in the aid of American artist Daniel Arsham who is known for his work that combines the medium of fine art, architecture and performance – his first collaboration with the brand since 2011.

Referencing the designer’s work, the Dior Homme set (created by Arsham) mimicked an archaeological site featuring crumbling sculptures against a pink sand setting – and the ‘Future Relics’ collection followed.

Of the 50 looks, the show opened with the new takes on the suit – sky blues with silky lapel detail that look like waves hitting the sand with lily of the valley brooches. Elsewhere white, cream and beiges were layered, mimicking the aesthetic of an archaeologist on site and flair came with orange patterns over all-white, sheer chic and faded newspaper prints documenting the era.

Ralph Lauren Just Made History With An Honorary Knighthood

Ralph Lauren has been granted an honorary knighthood from Prince Charles, making him the first American fashion designer to receive such a title.

Making history as the first American fashion designer to receive such as honour, Ralph Lauren has just been granted a knighthood from Prince Charles.

The 79-year-old fashion pioneer – who carved out what has become the archetypal American wardrobe with colourful collard shirts and chic knit sweaters – headed to the Queen of England’s home in Buckingham Palace on June 19th, 2019 to accept the title and take part in the ceremony surrounding it.

Prince Charles, 70, named Lauren an Honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) for Services to Fashion by Queen Elizabeth.

On the history-making moment, the designer said: “To have the honorary KBE conferred on me by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and presented to me personally by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales is an honour I have humbly accepted.”

And added: “I have always been inspired by the history, traditions and culture of Great Britain and the historic relationship our two countries have shared. This is one of the most meaningful honours bestowed at this very special moment in my 50th Anniversary.”

Having stepped down at the head of the company in 2015, Lauren remains at the fashion empire still today as the chief designers. While the British royal often champions British designers, Ralph Lauren has long been a favourite of the regal family – Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle both sporting the brand of recent.

Valentino Menswear Collection at Paris Fashion Week SS20: Think Colourful Camo, Escapist Prints and Boxy Cuts

Taking to the Grand Palais in Paris, Valentino’s Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli presented a menswear collection for the warmer months that took inspiration from Roger Dean.

The English artist and designer is known for his fantastical, vivid landscape creations and one of his most recognisable works in the album cover for British band Yes for their 1993 release of An Evening of Yes Music Plus.

But with the artist’s Floating Island painting included onto the official invite for the Italian fashion house, it was an indication of what was to come… As models made their way down the runway, they embodied Dean’s opposing themes of both the natural and the fantastical, mixing earthy tones of tawny brown and olive green with vibrant tones of orchid purple over sun bright orange.

Camo print was far from camouflage in vivid tones, and picturesque landscape prints were equally removed from the natural with highly saturated shades. As for shapes, boxy shirts were tucked into smart slacks – clinched with a buckle belt – and looks were finished with cross body leather bags and weekenders, while only the chunky climber trainers would suffice.

Mukhi Sisters Maya, Meena, and Zeenat Talk Working Together, Their Jewellery Passion and Winning Fashion Trust Arabia

Sisters Zeenat, Meena and Maya grouped together to work on their jewellery line Mukhi Sisters, and have earned the seal of approval from the industry after winning Fashion Trust Arabia’s prize within the jewellery category. Speaking to A&E, the trio chat through the philosophy behind the brand, their earliest jewellery memories and their most sentimental items.

While the trio – India-Lebanese sisters Maya, Meena and Zeenat Mukhi – established their jewellery business back in 2009, their family’s integral relationship with fine jewellery dates back much further.

In the 1920s, their grandfather left India along with his cousins to make their way over to Beirut, going on to open jewellery stores in Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Libya, Doha and Dubai. In 1979 their father, Chandru Mukhi, married Lebanese lady, Effat Kreidieh, who created Effys Jewellery.

Thirty years later, the sister pulled together to put their passion for and rich heritage surrounding jewellery together, creating Mukhi Jewellery. A further ten years on, they were awarded by the Fashion Trust Arabia for their designs. Talking to A&E, the trio talk through the experience of winning the award, the work building up towards it and the future of the brand.

A&E Interviews the Mukhi Sisters

Mukhi Sisters Maya, Meena, and Zeenat talk to A&E about their jewellery passion

Mukhi Sisters Maya, Meena, and Zeenat talk to A&E about their jewellery passion

Tell us about winning the Fashion Trust Arabia award?

Being part of FTA was a time to take a look at ourselves and see where we stand, what we have achieved so far and where do we see ourselves going. We usually go through this process internally, but the fact of standing in front of the best in the industry was a challenging moment for us. Being awarded Best Fine Jewelers in the first edition of FTA is a great acknowledgement for our work.

Tell us a bit more about Mukhi jewellery… How did it come about?

In February 2009, we decided to take our passion for fine jewellery to the next level. And so Mukhi Sisters was born out of the vivacious influences of different cultures and rich traditions. We grew up surrounded by design and jewellery-making. Our childhood was full of private shows, trade exhibitions, witnessing artisans at work and exciting discussions about the art and science of jewellery.

It was only natural to us since our father, Chandru Mukhi, comes from a long line of Indian jewellers who have been in the business since 1875 and our mother, Effat Kreidie, has been the woman behind Effys Jewellery since 1982. This intergenerational background makes Mukhi Sisters an independent brand that tells an exceptional story of its own.

Mukhi Sisters

Mukhi Sisters

What is the philosophy behind the brand?

Mukhi Sisters transforms stories and personal moments into finely crafted jewellery with real individuality, Each piece is a conversation starter, experience and distinctive narrative with a unique energy. Perfect jewellery for every day and night, the creations reflect each sister’s personal style, interests and obsessions.

At Mukhi Sisters, the subtle meets the bold, the vibrant clashes with the sober, the nostalgic meets trendsetting style, the ethnic merges with the urban, and nature blossoms next to fanciful symmetry. It’s a cascade of sensations that celebrates the beauty of semi-precious stones, gold and diamonds to create original statements and to reflect a lifestyle sparkling with individuality. It’s ultimately an invitation to remain true to yourself.

What has been your proudest moment to date?

There are so many. Today, we’re going to pick a moment from our star collection Reverie On The Vine, launched in 2016. We were at an international Jewellery show and one of the finest names from the industry (sorry we can’t share details!) came up to someone representing us back then and asked about the leaf earrings and bracelets we had designed. He said it had been a while since something caught his attention. And this meant the world to us, being acknowledged for your works is always a proud moment.

Mukhi Sisters

Mukhi Sisters

When did each of your love and fascination with jewellery begin?

From our earliest childhood. Maya: I remember spending time under my mom’s desk at her store, hoping to find diamonds..!

How is it an important part of your heritage?

We grew up so close to the industry that we feel we have undying respect and responsibility towards it. We are so connected to it, it is who we are.

What do you love about creating jewellery in this region?

We love the boldness and the abundance of creativity. The designs coming from our region are not shy, they are well-thought statement pieces, and that is something that makes us proud. There is a certain diversity when it comes to good design coming from our region, as opposed to a wave of a blending in styles we are seeing around us.

Mukhi Sisters

Mukhi Sisters

What’s it like working so closely together?

It’s great. The biggest win was realizing that we should focus on being sisters, not only business partners and that we have responsibilities towards each other.

If you could only pick one piece as your favourite each you’ve ever created, what would that be?

Maya: I can’t pick just one. My favourite right now would be the starshine bangles!

Meena: undoubtedly the Beiruti Sunset pendant. This piece is a reminder that hope and belief keep us going- it’s one of our iconic pieces.

Zeenat: Our fleur de lys rings, we launched them almost 8 years ago and we still make them! Our clients by them by pairs and I have to say, I haven’t taken off mine since 2011.

Giorgio Armani, Fendi and Dsquared2 at Milan Fashion Week: See Inside the Mens Fashion Shows for Spring/Summer 2020

From Milan to Paris take a look at the menswear collections for Spring/Summer 2020 that are currently being showcased for SS20.

Fendi

Showcasing her collection for the coming season, Menswear Creative Director Silvia Venturini Fendi presented a botanically inspired collection for Spring 2020 that came both in the literal and indicative sense. Partnering with Italian artist and film director Luca Guadagnino, the collection saw botanical prints, khaki overalls, fisherman jackets and breezy cuts in shades of taupe brown, sage green and almond coral.

Giorgio Armani

See Giorgio Armani's Menswear Collection for SS20

During Milan’s Men’s Fashion Week for Spring 2020, Giorgio Armani took to Via Borgonuovo in Brera to showcase its menswear collection for SS20 that oozed relaxed elegance. And these mostly-moody hues were worked traditionally masculine shapes using light and airy fabrics that lead to a feel that both relaxed yet seamlessly formal, too. Expect linen suit shirts and subtly patterned jacquard garments, high notched collars and high shine metallics and a splash of red with patchwork numbers and thee of GA monogram.

Dsquared2

Dean and Dan Caten also looked back to Eighties pop culture when conjuring their latest collection. And likewise, the twin brothers turned fashion designers didn’t go subtle with their admiration for Bruce Lee – and the iconography surrounding him from the era – for their SS20 Dsqaured2 collection. Think printed tees (of the martial arts legend’s face, nonetheless) red florals, animal prints and cuts that mimic traditional martial arts dress.

Etro

Etro Menswear SS20

Etro Menswear SS20

For his Spring 2020 collection, Creative Director Kean Etro didn’t disguise his source of inspiration as something to be mused over or theorised by frow-ers and fashion followers. From sporting the franchise logo over a short sleeves shirt to channelling the costume department, Etro went all in on the Star Wars theme for Spring 2020. The Desert Saga collection saw ponchos make a return in earthy (not, surprisingly, other-worldly) shades, motif tees worn under vibrant blazer jackets, shadow stripes cropped trousers matches with heavy accessories and red worn over beiges, creams and caramels.

Emporio Armani

Emporio Armani Menswear SS20

Emporio Armani’s menswear collection for Spring 2020 screamed movement and fluidity, garments falling away from the models’ frame as they strutted along the runway in Milan’s Via Borgonuovo. This movement was mirrored in tie-dye prints, water-rippled metallics and quite literally represented with parachute shapes paired with billowing capes. Dark denims, gunmetal greys and metallic parakeet green were the hues of choice.

Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana Menswear SS20

As Dolce & Gabbana took to Metropol theatre to present its SS20 collection for men, it took on a laid-back-explorer feel, with slogans such as ‘Chill & Love and ‘Only Good Vibes’ embossed onto khaki and beige shades of shirts and overall, prints of pineapples, coconuts and bananas and animal print in its many forms. Elements of the forties and fifties were mixed with elements of the eighties to create an overall topical feel by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana

Versace

Alongside the Prodigy soundtrack came a collection from Versace that paid homage the late Keith Flint, the founding member of the iconic band and a pioneer within the electronic dance genre. Nineties rave was evoked by models (including the likes of Gigi Hadid) walking the runway draped in leather jackets over forward-point collared shirts and ties, two-tone suits, leopard print and tie-dye hues.

Ermenegildo Zegna

Artistic Director Alessandro Sartori took to former industrial complex outside of Milan, to present 48 menswear looks for the next season, with a focus of sustainable fashion as well as style for 2020. In fact, 20 per cent of the Spring collection for Ermenegildo Zegna was made using upcycled materials, nylon and wool in particular. The overall feel was of an industrial elegance.

Salvatore Ferragamo

Paul Andrew, who was appointed Creative Director of Salvatore Ferragamo in February 2019, rolled out his first show with the fashion house in its hometown of Florence. And tribute was clearly paid in the collection – expect abstract prints of the Fountain of Neptune, lavender and mint hues, sleek shapes and utility workwear.

Alexander McQueen

Sarah Burton, Creative Director of British fashion house Alexander McQueen, delivered a loud collection for Spring 2020 – magenta pink, abstract florals and embroidered glamour. An essence of Englishness was presented in both the cuts and fabrics.

Givenchy

Givenchy Menswear SS20

For her first solo menswear collection, Givenchy‘s Artistic Director Clare Waight Keller took inspiration from the streets of Seoul. Suits were worn in every way possible bar the traditional form, and colour ranged from muted pastels to acid blue, and this tailoring was mixed with athleisure style.

Foliage making up the setting, it was clear where Fendi‘s SS20 menswear collection was going as soon as guests arrived at the Milan’s Villa Reale, taking to the gardens to be seated.

For the coming season, Silvia Venturini Fendi – the fashion house’s Creative Director for accessories, menswear and children –  partnered with Luca Guadagnino. The Italian artist and film director worked with Fendu to creative a collection that felt organic, connected and quite literally is down to earth.

The obvious green fingers inspired looks came in the form of botanical prints, khaki overalls and gardening gloves as accessories, while less explicit looks included shades of taupe brown, sage green and almond coral utilised in breezy cuts, oversized pockets on fisherman jackets and summer sun friendly sandals.

LVMH’s First Watch Exhibition Is Coming To Dubai

The first watch exhibition by LVMH is coming to Dubai in January 2020.

Live in Dubai, and you’ll know 2020 is a year we’ve been, as a city, looking forward to for a long time. But Expo 2020 aside, now there’s another reason why we’re counting down the months.

LVMH –  the parent company behind brands such as Bvlgari, TAG Heuer, Hublot and Zenith – has announced a new exhibition will be showcased in the Emirate in January 202o, it’s first in the region.

The luxury event will take place in Dubai Bvlgari Hotel, and each watch brand will invite both international and local media as well as retail partners to discover the latest news, trends and innovations in the industry of the year ahead.

Jean-Christophe Babin, President of the Bvlgari Group, said on the news: “In between Geneva in January and Basel in March, we have had in the recent years two major product presentations in the first quarter.

Bvlgari broke another world record at Baselworld 2019

Bvlgari at Baselworld 2019

“This early discovery of our strategies, news and novelties have allowed our media and retail partners to better plan the year ahead and as such we have decided on this set up for 2020 to balance the scheduling of the other events.”

Baselworld, the watch and jewellery trade show located in the Swiss city of Basel that pulls in thousands from all over the world year on year, will take place later in the year around late April to early May, and LMVH has confirmed its presence there, too.

Stéphane Bianchi, President of the LVMH Watch Division, confirmed: “We remain very supportive and loyal to Baselworld and the Swiss watchmaking industry. However, it was not possible for us to go 13 months without a global presentation of our products and brands. This additional event further confirms the LVMH commitment to the strategic and profitable watch category.”

Always one of the most anticipated runways, Giorgio Armani demonstrated once again exactly how it can stick to its ethos of tailoring and effortless sauve for yet another season while keeping things fresh and inviting.

Ready for Spring 2020, the Italian fashion house channelled the blues with its most recent update on tailoring. As Giorgio Armani headed back to the Palazzo Orsini to showcase the menswear collection, models were sent down the runway wearing hues of indigo blue, steel grey, sesame cream and silver metallic.

And these mostly-moody hues were worked traditionally masculine shapes using light and airy fabrics that lead to a feel that both relaxed yet seamlessly formal, too

A&E Recommends: The Lighthouse is the Concept Eatery and Store You Need to Visit this Weekend

Concept stores are popping up more and more across Dubai. This means a one-stop destination where you can shop, eat, drink coffee, meet up with friends but more important hangout and feel a home.

And The LightHouse – located within Building 6 in Dubai Design District – is one to add to your list if you’re yet to visit. Named after the Virginia Woolf novel, the bright and airy space mimics the 1927 novel’s notion of and her Bloomsbury Group fellows who met over “lingering breakfasts” and “painting lunches.”

Of course the heart of the setup – like any welcoming home – is the kitchen. The feel is more laid back than a fancy restaurant but with finer cuisine than a cafe, so makes for the perfect leisurely lunch.

Chef Izu Ani mixes up a cocktail of healthy, colourful dishes that are both indulgent yet nourishing. Nibble on light delights such as the kale and button mushroom salad with a side of baked feta and a mezze selection to share, before moving on to mains such as grilled baby chicken with dried apricots, fried shallots and pistachios or truffle rigatoni with mushrooms, cream sauce and sliced truffle.

Avo on Toasts The Lighthouse

Elsewhere, you can stay for coffee (laptops and worn-in books welcome) or bimble around the shop – ideal for little gifts for loved ones. From cookbooks and cutesy jewellery to scented candles and quirky washbags.

The Lighthouse also run regular events, too, such workshops and talks within the store and external pop-ups events.

So whether you want to spend the day sipping coffee and indulging in some light chopping on spending the evening engaging in a talk, visit thelighthouse.ae for more.

Net-A-Porter To Launch New Platform Net Sustain To Offer Eco Friendly Fashion Options

More and more fashion houses are striving towards making more sustainable choices. Take Ralph Lauren re-inventing their classic polo using recycled plastic bottles, Prada launching a fine jewellery collection made using sustainable materials or Versace pledging to go fur-free…

Thanks to Net-A-Porter’s new platform, Net Sustain, this should no longer be a pressing concern for those seeking a little luxury with minimal negative environmental impact.

The new platform will aim to highlight and celebrate brands that are sold on Net-A-Porter that adhere to the company’s criteria for sustainability, offering customers a way to identify those brands and products more easily. To begin, 26 brands will feature and a combined total of 500 products, and expect exclusive capsules from Stella McCartney, Mother of Pearl x BBC Earth and Maggie Marilyn and seasonal and core styles from the likes of Ninety Percent, Fisch, Lem Lem, Peony, Veja, Hereu, Nannacay, and Chopard.

Global Buying Director Elizabeth von der Goltz said: “This is an important milestone in our sustainability journey at NET-A-PORTER. We have always wanted to provide our customer with the best products and allow them to make informed choices when shopping on the site. July Birthstone: The Best Ruby Jewellery To Gift Your Loved Ones

Finding a gift that’s both luxurious and personal can be tricky. So if you have a loved one celebrating an important birthday this month , why not treat them to a pair of earrings encrusted with rubies, the birthstone for the month of July.

The concept of birthstones is an ancient one and stems from previous civilisations’ beliefs that gems and crystals hold unique and particular powers. Rubies have been known as the jewel of passion, love, power and raw energy for life – making it a thoughtful present for those born in the summer month. Hundreds of millions of years in the making, rubies are extremely rare and often cited as the most luxurious of all the gemstones with a very unique formation process.

Jewellery houses such as Fabergé and Bina Goenka have created intricate and exuberant rings, earrings, and necklaces using the precious stone. The first of which was founded in 1842 in Saint Petersburg, Russia, by Gustav Faberge and was once famous for designing elaborate jewel-encrusted Fabergé eggs for the Russian Tsars. Later, his grandsons moved the house to Paris.

Fabergé Heritage heart locket and i love you

Fabergé Heritage heart locket and I love you

The second, Bina Goenka, is known for her creative, artistic approach to jewellery making without substituting pure luxury and the finest of rare materials. Both houses source their rare gems from Gemfields, global emerald and ruby gemstone suppliers. The 2007-founded company is the operator (and 75 per cent owner) of both Kagem emerald mine in Zambia and Montepuez ruby mine in Mozambique. The former is assumed to be the world’s single largest producing emerald mine, and the latter one of the most significant recently discovered ruby deposits in the world.

At the heart of the Gemfields is its responsibility to source and provide stones in a sustainable manner, as the company takes on a leading role in modernising the coloured gemstone industry and building lasting, sustainable livelihoods for the communities living close to the mines and contributing in a positive way to national economies.

Inside Ermenegildo Zegna’s Upcycled and Sustainable Menswear Collection for SS20

In 2019, the time has come when we can no longer ignore the need to lead a sustainable lifestyle, from the personal choices we make to the businesses we run. Something that Alessandro Sartori, who has been Artistic Director at Z Zegna since early 2016, has addressed with his latest menswear collection.

Taking to an abandoned industrial complex (which is fittingly set to be restructured into a hospital) Sartori presented a colourful menswear collection with a focus on sustainability. In fact, 20 per cent of the Spring collection for Ermenegildo Zegna was made using upcycled materials, nylon and wool in particular. This means instead of discarding cut off fabrics lost across the various stages of production, they were collection up and reformed into perfectly wearable garments.

On his mission with the collection that called for the hashtag #UseTheExisting, Sartori said: “It is our duty as denizens of this world to live responsibly. I want to do it using the creative means I have at my disposal, which extend from the materiality of fabric- making, to the exquisite technicality of tailoring to the highly communicative aspect of show-making.

Artistic Director Alessandro Sartori took to former industrial complex outside of Milan, to present 48 menswear looks

“Everything is connected, and everything conveys the same idea: we do not need to create the new from scratch, but we can reuse and reinvent the existing, getting progressive fabrics out of discarded ones, translating traditional techniques into innovative lifetime tailoring, turning an abandoned place into an area of creation.”

As for the styles themselves, lines were blurred when it comes to colour, with bomber jackers with worn-in marble shades and patchwork suit jackets sampling different faded tones and irregular patterns – all of which fed into the reused and old-but-new ethos of the collection. The silhouette adopted were neat – boxy blousons, voluminous coats, sleek three-button blazers and slim one-button jackets with 3D patch pockets are paired with lean yet soft trousers or fuller ones – and fabrics were firm but light, such as wools and technical silks. The overall feel was of an industrial elegance.

The Desert Island Disc Episodes from Beauty Industry Experts You Need to Listen to

Some of the most famous names in beauty have to taken to the British radio-show-turned-podcast to offer insight into their lives, walking listeners through their incredible careers today.

If you grew up in the United Kingdom, you’re likely to have heard of Desert Island Discs. But if the phrase recalls no memories for you,  then here’s a quick update: The BBC radio, which first began in 1942, asks notable names to pick the seven records they’d pack with them if there were being castaway on to a remote island, asking them to explain the reasoning of each track in a way that often outlines their life story of career trajectory to date. Each guest picks one book and one luxury item, too.

Still going in 2019, the show – which is currently hosted by Lauren Laverne – is now available in podcast form, meaning its easier than ever to listen to the tales and tunes of the figures we admire and who amuse us.

And within this archive of episodes (some 1,400 episodes at the time of writing) are interviews with key figures within the world of beauty. Most recently, for example, Pat McGrath, sat down to flesh out the skeleton formed by her timeline of influential music tracks. The world famous makeup artist talked about her mum inspired her within the world of beauty, how she got her big break in the industry, and some of the great friends she’s made along the way.  And she’s not the only one who deserves a download click…

Fashion and Beauty Desert Island Discs That Deserve a Download

Beauty figures open up on Desert Island Discs

Beauty figures open up on Desert Island Discs

Pat McGrath, May 2019

Often dubbed as one of the most important makeup artists in the world, Pat McGrath has worked with all the big global beauty brands and has painted the faces of models backstage at all the major fashion shows. In her episode, she talks through how her fascinations with beauty began watching her mum explore makeup (especially trying to work around the lack of diversity within products during her era), making her own moisturisers as a child for her dolls, and the scene in Soho, London when she was growing up.

Trevor Sorbie, March 2019

Another beauty icon recently took to the BBC radio show. Sorbie is best known for his namesake’s range of salons and hair care products (which are vegan-friendly) nowadays. But if you only know Sorbie since seeing his salon recently pop up in The Dubai Mall, then this episode is a must-visit to find out exactly why he’s such a big name in the world of hair, and how his beauty innovations changed the industry. In the episode, the Scotland-born hairdresser chats about starting his career at age 15,  working under Vidal Sassoon, creating the iconic Wedge hairstyle and being granted an MBE.

Jo Malone, January 2015

There isn’t a name more synonymous with luxurious candles than Jo Malone. The beauty entrepreneur is the creator of the eponymous candle and perfume brand, and she sat down with host Kirsty Young in 2015. In the episode, she talks through her early fascination with the worlds of scent –  from grinding up sandalwood and straining juniper at the kitchen table aged just nine, to opening her first branch to going global with her brand. But letting listenings in on the real story of her success, Malone discusses what she overcame on the way to it – from leaving school at 14 to battling breast cancer.

Vidal Sasson,  October 2011

And Vidal Sasson himself sat down with previous host Kirsty Young in 2011 (which turned out to be one year before his death) to chat through his own remarkable career. The British-American hairstylist is most famed for bringing back the bob haircut with a new, clean, somewhat-geometric edge. His success has seen his name given to salons, hair styling tools and hair care products across the world. Sasson talks about his tough childhood and raising himself out of poverty, and styling Twiggy’s hair in the 1960s. What did we love about Sasson’s episode? He chose 12 bottles of his own brand of shampoo to be his luxury item while stranded on the island. He was previously interviewed in 1970, too.

Mr Porter has expanded its clothing offering with Norwegian menswear brand, Berg & Berg, and here’s what you need to know about the newcomer to the e-commerce site.

Following in the footsteps of sister site Net-A-Porter’s, e-commerce site Mr Porter set up virtual shop in 2010. Almost ten years on, it has not only become the go-to online retailer for men to shop clothes but is also a one-stop destination that equips gentlemen to curate a style that feeds into their lifestyle.

The formula to Mr Porter’s success? The mix of world-famous brands (Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, Gucci) with the site’s own label Mr P (which dropped in 2017) and more niche brands from different corners of the world that shoppers may never have come across otherwise all under one roof.

And keeping up their winning formula, Mr Porter has added another niche name to its impressive portfolio; Berg & Berg.

Born in Oslo, Norway in 2009, the family-run label (founded and funded by Karin and Mathias Berg) create classic Nordic designs that align with the modern global man. Think slim fit cotton blend suit jackets in soft navy, buttonless cotton polo shirts in steel blue and twill schoolboy-esque shorts in camel.

While creating a buzz in its homeland – and having worked closely with niche manufacturers across Italy and Scotland – Berg & Berg hasn’t travelled too far from home just yet.

But the addition of the Norwegian label to Mr Porter’s 450 plus labels which ship to 170 countries, that could be about to change. The initial drop, which is available to shop now, consists of an 18 piece capsule collection.

These Skyline-Inspire Tote Bags Are Our New City Escape Companions

There are many cities that need to be checked off one’s bucket list – from London to New York, Hong Kong and Shanghai – that it’s hard to know where to begin. But thanks to the latest bag collection from Loewe, we’ve at least got a shortlist to start with as the latest designs from the Spanish brand has taken inspiration from some of the biggest cities in the world.

In what is one of the first rigid bags designed by Loewe under Creative Director Jonathan Anderson, this tough exterior draped with supple leather will become what makes the new Postal bag design distinctive among other iconic shapes from the fashion house, such as the Puzzle, Hammock and Gate bags.

While the new Postal Bag will be available in a range of solid-coloured options and one-of-a-kind versions animated by playful designs, it’s the skyline inspired designs that will be released over the summer that has caught our attention.

The limited edition designs feature illustrations capturing some of the most famous cities in the world, such as Madrid, Barcelona, London, Paris, New York, Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Available in two sizes, each design has been subjected to the intricate technique of leather marquetry in order to evoke the aesthetics of an old fashioned postcard. In that same spirit, all Postal bags are ‘stamped’ with an engraved Anagram, too.

While the first drop of the collection will be in China from July 15th, the entire collection – bar the Barcelona Postal bag will be available exclusively in the Paseo de Gracia store – will be available worldwide on August 8th.
